Thank you for a super entry. At times I felt I had been let loose in a sweetie shop such was the quality of the exhibits before me. Indeed because I was spoilt I was hard on jaw and dentition faults and Borders that were more smart terrier than true Border in type. My experience over the years leads me to believe that such faults are heart-breakingly likely to continue to bite in the future if not stamped on. My main winners were true Borders. You read of “a-ha moments†and happily for me there were some rather nice ones here. Good times indeed.

1st - Daluce Soldier Of Fortune (Mr J & Mrs H M Thomas)
Marked a good start to the day with a class of promising babies. This one stylish and of a good size, nothing overdone, moved competently for his age, could be a tad longer in rib but in good coat and has the capacity to continue to develop well.
2nd - Hawcoat Lord George (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner)
Spannable and well made, another capable mover, good in neck and shoulder, should not be over handled, would not want any more of him at this stage nevertheless really likeable sort

1st - Question Master (Mrs S Waller)
I did enjoy this line-up of puppies headed by a potentially very nice dog, appealed in expression, good skull and correct in foreface, head well set on lovely neck and shoulders under a slight rising mane, super coat and pelt, balanced and well angulated all through, moved truly, I will look forward to seeing him progress as well as he has started
2nd - Tufterslodge Good Move (Ms J M Woolacott)
Another appealing one, just slightly preferred the length of bone on 1 but presented in good coat, sound as a bell, good in rib, shapely rear assembly including correct tail set, super condition

Another good class. Just out of puppy this quality individual took my eye early on, in repeat classes by PGD he was showing his age against the big boys but he excels in many ways, lovely correct bone, super legs and tight well padded feet, really good in shoulder and upper arm, straight and narrow but with necessary strength where required , lovely skull with correct stop, no exaggeration here, good expression, has the right coat and pelt, really well made fore and aft and ribbed back to give correct top and underline
2nd - Dandyhow Jumping Jack at Glebeheath JW (Mrs J Guvercin)
handles well and exhibited in good double coat with excellent supple thick skin, moved as if he meant it and has lots to recommend, well proportioned and good in rib and bodylines, for me is somewhat upright in forehand

1st - Ravenside Workforce (Mr M Lowry)
RCC This typy specimen moved with purpose, sound because he is well constructed all through, he appealed from his lovely unexaggerated head with good ears to his strong loin and super quarters to present an excellent outline, he flows from point to point nothing is harshly angled or overdone, readily spanned he free shows standing correctly on the entirety of his feet with excellent pasterns, for me he epitomised how a good Border should be made and well deserved his high award in good company
2nd - Okarito Omar (Mr N & Mrs M Yates)
I liked this dog a lot he is well proportioned, not as close coated as winner and and not quite so well ribbed back but made on the right lines he carries himself nicely and stepped out here moving with drive to edge the 2nd spot over

stronger in head than 2 with good skull and foreface and lovely shaped eye producing pleasing expression, ok in neck and shoulder, rear quarters satisfactory
2nd - Minisucces Jack The Lad (Miss A Bekker)
needs some patient ringcraft to bring out his best, sufficient bone, a little plain in foreface but neat in ear and good strong teeth and underjaw, built on active lines and moved sensibly

1st - Olderhill Afortunado (Mrs S Wilson)
CC, BOB Gp4. I think this was the best PGD class I have ever judged topped by this classy, lively individual who stands out for all the right reasons. At first instance he presented conditioned and well muscled with that tight flexibility which is not the contradiction in terms it might sound, in superb coat he looked like he could withstand the weather, terrain and tasks a wintry day in the borders might throw at him. Next correctly sized he is spannable and very good to go over, with a narrow body of ideal length which is ribbed back as it should be. Head and expression tick all the boxes with huge teeth and strong underjaw, he has a lovely outlook and stands balanced on lovely legs and feet, well let down behind he is built right here as well and moves accordingly. Lovely tail, set on perfectly and used all day. In short he is a genuine Border who brings out my worst fault – envy!
2nd - Northborders Mr Pickles JW (Miss J North)
A male I have not encountered before, and what a nice surprise, an excellent blue and tan built on racy lines, narrow and active he sported a lovely otter head with good skull and foreface. Keen expression. Excellent narrow, straight front with good feet. Good body lines, easily spanned and comes to hand balanced he should soon move out of this class

Another fine class with strong contenders for top honours. I wrote in my book “fag paper timeâ€. In perfect fettle a quality exhibit who appears to enjoy the job in hand, of excellent size and spannable. He has super height to length ratios. Really good head piece with lovely skull and muzzle and correct in stop, keen, bright expression. He flows from front to back and moves well too.
2nd - Hawcoat Blue Bertie (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner)
This masculine boy is finishing well, free shown to advantage he is well proportioned and stands balanced on all well padded feet with superior hindquarters with second thigh and correct in stifle and hock. I love his ottery head and true Border expression. Coming towards me he was just not quite as accurate as 1

1st - Brumberhill Blue Tempest (Mr S A Mcpherson)
On the evidence of today the current crop of males are certainly in good order at present with another strong class here and good ones going unplaced. I think highly of this excellent example who fits the standard so well all over. I have rated him top notch before and have no reason to add to what I have already said. Today it was only his slightly lacklustre coat and demeanour that directed me elsewhere for the top awards in this company.
2nd - Dandyhow Dr Walter (Mrs K M Irving)
One I have not examined before. A very good specimen which lots to like, good type, pleasing head pattern and expression, lost out slightly in front to 1 but very good body lines with good loin and shapely rear assembly he used his excellent hock to foot well moving to cover the ground as he should, free and economical.

1st - Hawcoat Forget Me Not (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner)
Forget Me Not BP No chance of forgetting this one in a hurry, a sweet, feminine, true b/t, not over done , she is nicely made throughout with pretty, well proportioned head and skull with true expression set on good neck and shoulder, excellent in body with correct rib she presents with good underline. Despite her handler’s best endeavours I did appreciate her good quarters and hope that she might be allowed to settle herself correctly with her hocks let down as she does when she is relaxed, has the potential to shine
2nd - Iacheslei Corus (Miss A Harrison)
I love being faced with choices like this : another delicious prospect, in beautiful nick, she has a well moulded skull, good foreface and nicely shaped eye, front and rear assemblies are well made with good length of bone and she is ribbed back correctly, ideal size, moved soundly, again at the right stage of development for her age

Another good b/t built on classic lines, has scope and presents a lovely picture , good in front and rear assembly with correct bone, stands balanced, moves out well, undoubtedly a good one and nip and tuck with the MPB for best overall
2nd - Kersfell Chorus Girl (Mrs M Sneddon)
stood out for superb coat and pelt, skin pliable and thick, coat dense and close, good head and expression with correct stop and nice eye, stands well on good padded feet, shapely all through

1st - Esyntona Ripling Ruby (Mr I Hopper)
Nice class unfortunately some went cardless as they were really in their petticoats in this good company, very good to handle this workmanlike youngster was hiding her many virtues under a thick, proper coat giving the impression that she was deeper than she in fact was, she moved really accurately fore and aft with a positive ground covering gait, most beautiful and typical otterhead and the sort of expression that fills the eye
2nd - Merumhor Solstice Belle (Mr C J & Mrs J H Martin)
Good b/t who could have had a little more undercoat but lots to like, lovely head pattern with good skull and muzzle, correct length of neck and good shoulder with correct upperarm, good topline, well let down behind, good second thigh and strong short rear pasterns used to advantage on the move

1st - Tythrop Touch on Wood (Mrs J L Lee)
Again many nice ones were not in their best bib and tucker in this class, but not so this fine example who answers the standard well, a master class in presentation this one delivers a full double coat without spoiling her outline, I am not a fan of the deep keel and overdone forechest creeping into some specimens and this one shows how they should be constructed in that department with equally good back ribs to provide correct underline and correct coupling, angulation all through good. Sound moving and topped by a classic headpiece with correct stop and lovely expression and tailed with an excellent rudder. Pressed hard in the challenge especially when free showing to advantage
2nd - Benattivo Abiba (Miss S M Moseley)
Really likeable quality b/t appealing in most areas, presenting with the right outlook, bright and feminine has a very good head with true Border expression, good underjaw, good body lines and limbs, moved for me like she should

this is nice b/t who benefits from an active construction with good height to length ratios, good bone, well ribbed, stands balanced and while could be a tad more positive in front still moves economically and with a view to getting where she is going

1st - Tameila Penny Lane By Borderella (Mrs P South)
Both 1 and 2 were sound moving individuals exhibited in dense harsh coats, typical honest Borders both of sensible, workmanlike proportions. 1 scored in head and expression but I preferred the underline of 2nd

Narrow and spannable this one scored particularly in the forehand when moving, typey with sweet head and expression and built on the right lines
2nd - Quarryway Tansy (Mrs B & Mr K E Johnson & Williams)
another feminine individual presented in super coat and correctly conditioned. Lovely legs and feet slight plainer than 1 and preferred the underline on 1 due to her slightly better carry back of rib.
3rd - Rhozzum Viola At Borderbridge (Miss B Singh)

1st - Bramblebrae Violet at Shiftyfox JW (Mr G Wildey)
CC My word what a class, a hot short list headed by this special exhibit for whom the standard could have been written, lovely b/t of high quality, harsh and strong topcoat with excellent undercoat, ideal head properties and such a true Border expression, keen but not hard she looked at me just right, beautiful neck and well laid shoulder, good strong well made quarters, so good in body lines generally she did not let me down on the move but had the free sound stride of a good one. Sympathetically and modestly handled she was more than worthy of this hard won CC. In the final challenge just bowed to the fresher animation of the dog.
2nd - Tufterslodge Winter Warmer (Ms J M Woollacott)
RCC Beautifully proportioned and standing really balanced this one could not match the winner in overall head qualities but still has a well moulded skull and strong muzzle and underjaw, just a tad plainer in expression but has lovely type and lines and looks as if she could well do the job she was bred for. Put down in super coat and condition and virtually free shown to very best advantage she made such an impression she could not be denied her chance to challenge for the RCC and she did not have to be asked twice but moved true and emphatically to underline her claim

I am fortunate indeed to have the chance to go over such a high class field and it was difficult to separate the principals of this and the previous class.
1st - CH Foxyard Better Behave At Emblehope (Miss D Bladen)
Built on racey lines this scopey feminine b is well made throughout. I preferred the rib and underline of 2 but this one has a beautiful head with very typical expression, carried well on good neck and shoulders which flow into a pleasing topline which extends to her good tail. Muscular quarters and moving with ease and purpose she is a worthy champion.
2nd - CH Southash Blue Betty Boo Gameway JW (Mrs P Clark)
Looking as if she has “been there, done that†she takes “laid back†to a new art form. This ultra typical individual refused to stand over her feet on her toes and did not move with the enthusiasm of 1 today but despite that she failed unequivocally to hide her classic construction which cannot be faulted, sound, balanced and well made she is a lovely example and I enjoyed going over her.
