Firstly I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at the club’s limited show, my first breed club appointment. Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality, and special thanks to my very efficient steward Joyce Orr who kept things running smoothly. Many thanks to all the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to go over their dogs and the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions.
As to be expected at this time of year, coats were at all stages with some exhibits in full coat and some without any, and in certain classes this was a deciding factor. Mouths were good with only one or two exhibits having the odd misplaced or dirty tooth. Size was a slight concern, with a few exhibits being well up to size and difficult to span, and some carrying a little too much condition. Movement on the whole was good, however, some exhibits did not cover the ground with the drive and economy of movement that would be essential when working. Generally temperaments were excellent and all males were entire.
I was very pleased with my main winners, in my opinion good examples of the breed and very capable of doing the job they were bred for.

1st - Earthwise One To Beat (Mr E Houston)
10 months old blue and tan dog with good strong head with typical expression. Good scissor bite with large teeth and strong underjaw. For me up to size but easily spanned. Very narrow throughout with good length of neck and ribbed well back. Nice topline which he held on the move. Good pelt but a little short of coat today. Well muscled hind quarters which he used well on the move, covering the ground with ease. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy In Show.

Very attractive grizzle and tan dog of almost 14 months. Excellent masculine head with lovely expression. Correct scissor bite with strong muzzle. Good straight front with enough bone and tight feet with thick pads. Very narrow and easily spanned with good topline and well set on tail. Good hind angulation with well muscled hindquarters. Nice loose pelt with tight new jacket just coming through. Very positive on the move giving a lovely picture in profile. Lovely sized young dog shown in fit condition. Delighted to award him Best Dog, Best Opposite Sex and Reserve Best In Show.

Almost 21 months grizzle and tan dog of nice type. Good head and expression with strong scissor bite. Lovely straight front with tight feet. Up to size for me and just spannable but good rib shape and ribbed well back. Excellent pelt with thick undercoat and lovely harsh tight jacket. Good topline when stood four square as handler had tendency to overextend his hindquarters. Good rear angulation and moved positively around the ring giving a pleasing outline. A nice young dog who could easily do a day’s work.

Almost 2 years old grizzle and tan dog with good head and expression. Excellent front with good reach of neck and just spannable. Good pelt but lacking coat today. Moved with drive around the ring. Another nicely put together dog giving a balanced picture.

1st - Miles of Love (Mrs M E Moir)
8 months old grizzle and tan puppy. Feminine head which needs time to fully mature, typical expression and good bite. Straight front with well padded feet .Narrow throughout and easily spanned. Good topline and tailset. Thick pelt with good harsh jacket. Front movement a little loose but should tighten up as she matures. Best Puppy Bitch.
2nd - Foxcraig Magic Diamond (Mrs J Dixon)
Just turned 6 months grizzle and tan who is still very much a baby. Unfortunately she was very unsettled on the table which made it impossible for me to fully assess her. However she has a lovely head and expression, thick pelt and evidence of a tight jacket just coming through. Once settled she moved well. A very promising puppy who just needs more practice.
