I considered it a great honour to be invited to judge this show. I looked forward to it greatly and I was not in any way disappointed. A classy club with a classy committee. My stewards were great and we had some interesting moments through the day, but we coped. Thank you to all involved with the club and most of all the exhibitors for doing me the honour of having me judge your dogs. Thank you.
Whenever I judge Staffords, which is my own breed I always make the point that exhibitors should rid their dogs of any reasons to get beaten. Long pointed nails are not a good look, nor are they good for the dog. Even I can make a decent fist of a borders coat and as a singular part of the breed and its identification a bit more attention would not have gone amiss in some. Excess weight is not good for anybody, least of all, what is ostensibly a working terrier. I think there may well be some stars of the future in some of the lower classes and I shall watch with greater interest now when I am at the border ring. Thanks again to you all for coming and entering into the spirit of the day. I had a brilliant day and I hope you did too.

1st - Glebeheath Jump The Gun JW (Mrs J Guvercin)
this chap got the day off to a good start for me. He is a well grown and up to size Bl/tan with a bit of style and class about him. He has a good head, a straight , narrow enough front, a level topline, good coat and pelt and a good tail. He moved well enough front and rear and has a bright future if he doesn’t grow on too much. I liked him a lot.
2nd - Digmoor Bankers Bonus (Mr M P & Mrs S V Regan)
This is a grizzle dog who was very close up to the winner. A lot of the above remarks apply equally to this chap. In the final analysis I thought 1 moved a smidge better in front and that secured him first. Another dog of considerable promise.
3rd - Tyrian Outlaw (Mrs K Dean)
Making up a good first three, I thought this chap was not quite as positive in front movement as 1 & 2 and that cost him. Like the above, he has all the essentials, but there is no getting away from the fact that at this stage of their lives a few weeks can make a big difference.

1st - Olderhill Cadfael (Mrs D Stone & Mrs S Wilson,)
This is a smart dog who ended the day with BPIS. He has a bit of class and looked and went well. Good head with a good dark eye, good ears. He is well made all through and moved very well front and rear. Coat isn’t spot on at the minute but I suspect he will be to the fore a lot in the near future.

1st - Termlingtor Tic Tac Minty (Mrs C S Meakin)
A rangy style of dog who was quite sound. He and his young handler have a bit to go just yet, but they seemed to be having a good go at it. Keep it up.

1st - Tarkatale Midnight Memory (Mr C & Mrs J Gordon)
Grizzle dog that I liked a lot. He has a lovely typical head with a strong muzzle, a good narrow front with good bone, he has a level topline and is a really good mover behind. He has a good coat and a good pelt. Smart dog
2nd - Question Master (Mrs S Waller)
this dog was close up. He has a good head with a lovely expression. He has plenty of coat at the minute. He moved well and i a dog that I like for his style and type.
3rd - Dandyhow Gardener's Delight (Mr T Jones)
This dog is in very good condition muscle wise. He is quite sound and moved well behind.

1st - Prairie Storm At Wildperry
This is a big strong chap who was having his first bash at shows. I was well impressed with his very stolid temperament, totally relaxed about the whole thing. He has a fair head and is pretty sound, and he knows how to chill.
2nd - Termlingtor Tic Tac Minty (Mrs C S Meakin)

1st - Badgerbeck Uncle Fester (Miss L M Jenkins)
Very typy good all round puppy who is a bit fond of his tail at this stage. He has a good head, goodish front, level topline and is pretty sound.
2nd - Dandyhow Gardener's Delight (Mr T Jones)
3rd - Ragatam Poco For Borderbridge (Miss B J Singh)
This is a bl/tan who shows well, he has a dark eye, enough bone and goes well

1st - Oatberry Snow Storm (Miss K M Nitarska)
In my notes I say that this dog is a “pukka wee dog.†For some he will be too small but seems to fit the standard very nicely as far as I can tell in terms of size and weight. He oozes type to my eyes, he was in first rate condition, had a good coat, he moved well and had a good attitude. He had balance and a bit of class. I really liked him.
2nd - Hawcoat Lord George (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner)
This is a good headed dog who is a bit rangier than the winner. He has a good front, a good coat and topline and moved well front and rear.
3rd - Hartswelin Houdini (Mr R & Mrs D Warneford)
This chap is shorter backed than 2 but I preferred 2’s head and that decided it. His coat is OK and he moved well enough.

1st - Oatberry Snow Storm (Miss K M Nitarska)
2nd - Ragatam Lets Go At Borderbridge (Miss B J Singh)
This is a nice dog. He is OK all over but he wanted for a bit extra somewhere or other to give him more of a chance against the winner. Tidy and typy.
3rd - Mingrovia Flintstone Chief At Rubyfin (Mrs S J Channer)
Close up to 2 for quality, he has a good coat and moved well behind.

1st - Cobstoneway Lazy River (Mesdames R & J Squibbs & Barker)
Grizzle dog of good quality. He has a good head with a decent expression. He has a good body and back end, he moved well behind and his coat is pretty near the mark.
2nd - Dandyhow Douglas Fir (Mr T & Miss K Wrenn & Langdon)
Stylish bl/tan who has a bit of quality about him. I liked his head, body and backend, but he is a bit thin of coat at the minute and in good competition you can’t be giving anything away.
3rd - Rhozzum Mercury At Bramblequest (Mr M & Mrs L I Moore)
Another bl/tan who lost out to 2 on the quality of head. He is a similar style and moved well enough. He had more coat than 2 but the head was the deciding factor.
Entries: 8 Absentees: 3
This was a good class and an enjoyable one to judge. All of the first four had good heads but to my taste number 4’s was the best. He also had the best pelt all day, but he was giving too much away to the other guys in this class.
1st - Olderhill Afortunado (Mrs S Wilson)
All the goods that have been used thus far can be applied to this chap. He has a good head, narrow front, good topline and body, good backend and moved well. He has a good coat and tail and edged out 2 with a slightly stronger muzzle.
2nd - CH Foxfactor Pied Piper JW ShCM (Mrs K D Stockley)
All of the above applies to this one and number 3, there really wasn’t a lot in it at all, but you get to put them in an order and this is how it worked out. This guy moves well, he also has a good front, body, topline and hindquarters and coat.
3rd - Cobstoneway River Magic JW ShCM (Miss C Spencer)
Similarly to above a dog with plenty of quality. As an exhibitor you kind of think, yes thats all well and good, so how come I am only third, and in this instance I just preferred the two above. A smart dog who has lots of quality to him.

1st - CH Gameway Kiwi JW (Clark, Patricia J.)
Quality oldie who sadly went lame coming into the challenge and also for best veteran. However in the class he went well and had enough quality on show to edge out 2.
2nd - Foxfactor Hornblower JW ShCM (Mrs K D Stockley)
Quality dog who did it all well and belied his years. I wish I could do the same.
3rd - Tulawyn Oberon At Tilmoray (Mrs M Small)
Another proper gentleman, as above, lots of quality and style.

These first three were nice puppies, all had good heads with decent toplines, coat, tails and eye colour
1st - Olderhill Claudette (Mrs S Wilson)
As stated a nice puppy, she gained first place as aside of the stated virtue she had in my view the best front and that slightly outweighed the slightly better hindquarters that the second had.
2nd - Tyrian Fifth Element (Mrs K Dean)
Very close up and although she has a better hindquarter the better front of one sealed the deal.
3rd - Dublins Irish Mist at Arizcrow (Mrs J Butler)
This one was not far adrift and should do well in the future as well.

1st - Benattivo Double Flame (Mr C & Mrs S Girling)
I was very taken with this youngster. She is neat and classy, she had the best head in the class and along with her good front, topline and hindquarters she won pretty readily. BPB
2nd - Mattedonn Farthing (Mrs K Dean)
Decent pup here, not quite as positive as one and paid the price.
3rd - Cedarhill Madame Butterfly (Miss K M Nitarska)
Neat and tidy with time on her side.

Now we were cooking with gas, this was a much better class and I liked all of the first five, to coin a well used phrase, I am sure they will change places another day
1st - Badgerbeck Prediction (Miss L M Jenkins)
This bitch is a lot of what I like. Correct size, lovely head with good strong muzzle, straight narrow front, compact, level topline, good hindquarters and with a good coat to top it off.
2nd - Nantcoch Ffion (Mrs J M Phillips)
I have seen and liked this one before, she is very similar to my eyes, lovely head, good front, topline, coat and tail. Not quite as good in the hindquarters and that decided it. Another smart bitch.
3rd - Foxfactor Cue The Music JW (Mrs K D Stockley)
As an exhibitor its not much consolation to be told it was very close etc etc, but this one is and was very close to the ones above and I have left in the 4th and 5th because they were also very close up. Thanks to you all for giving me a class to really think about.

1st - Amicaoptima Blue Vixen (Miss L L Philpotts & Mr J A Atkin)
This one was reserve in the strong MP class and stood out here. She has a ways to go yet but has got a bit of style and something to build on.
2nd - Borterra Bonny Lass (Miss S Jenkins)
A solid citizen of the parish. She is a little plain in the head but she is very sound and moved very well. A little less stopping at the Golden Arches may be a god idea.
3rd - Wildperry Josephine (Mr & Mrs S, Briggs)
A smidge extra upholstery on this girl which isn’t really to be encouraged, but once it goes, and I am assured that will be soon, there may be a little star lurking underneath.

1st - Brookbank Tweed (Mrs S P Norris)
Nice head and good front on this bitch who’s outline is not quite what it could be due to recent maternal duties. Her topline is good, she moved well and had a decent coat.
2nd - Badgerbeck Prada (Miss L M Jenkins)
Smaller than 1, she has a lovely head, enough bone and good coat and hindquarters.
3rd - Southash Hollywood Girl (Mr J & Mrs I M Southam)
This bitch scores well in coat and type, but has a slightly large eye and is not so positive as 1 & 2.

1st - Baker's Delicious (Miss S Waller)
decent headed bitch with a good expression. She has plenty of coat at the minute, she moved well and kept her topline on the move.
2nd - Quarryway Tansy (Mrs B & Mr K E Johnson & Williams)
This one edged ahead of number 3 on a better coat, she has a dark eye, good feet, a good topline and tail and moved OK.
3rd - Lutrabeck Layla (Mrs S A & Mr M J & Miss J Taylor)
This bitch has a lovely head but not the muscle tone of the ones above, she has a good topline and moved OK.
Entries: 10 Absentees: 3
This was a good class and the combatants did plenty of moving round the ring whilst I got it straight in my head.
1st - Thistlestone Jenny Wren ShCM (Miss J & Mr S May & Whisker)
I liked this bitch quite a lot. She has a lovely head and a good coat and in the final analysis she was moving out the best and went first. She has a good front, body and hindquarters, kept her topline on the move and edged it in the movement stakes.
2nd - Nogard Take Ten (Mr J A & Misses F F & E H Evans)
What coat this bitch had was very harsh and her musculation was a credit to her owners. If I saw anything today that looked like it could go all day this one was it. I just preferred the head and coat on the winner.
3rd - Tyrian Amulet (Mrs K Dean)
Tough going being third in a good class, but this one was putting it all in. She is typy, has a good head, level topline and good coat. She moved well enough and did herself credit.

1st - Biddestone Poppyseed By Quarryway (Mrs B & Mr K E Williams)
I liked this one a lot and although it may not be de riguer these days what sealed the deal was an extra bit of life about her. A proper terrier. I thought her the best mover in the class and she has a good head, straight narrow front, good body, with a good coat and a good tail. She has good hindquarters and I am well pleased to have had the chance to judge her and the others in this very good class.
2nd - Benattivo Faberge JW (Mr C & Mrs S Girling)
There was really very little between these two, almost all of the above apply here but I thought one kept her topline just that wee bit better on the move. A quality bitch.
3rd - Worker's Playtime (Miss S Waller)
repeating myself here, there was not much in it for this one either. She is very typy, has a lovely head, has a good expression and is in good condition.

Three very fine ladies in this class. Being a gentleman I cannot be critical of any such finery, suffice to say they look much loved, they display varying degrees of waistline appropriate to the years and it was my honour to judge them. Thankyou for bringing them.
