Entries: 117 for 153
My most sincere thanks to all exhibitors for giving me such a lovely entry of 117 making 153 entries, the highest in the terrier group and one of only a few to break the 100 mark in the whole show.
It is human nature for us all to ringside judge and we are all guilty of this, but going over an exhibit first hand, is further revealing, a privilege for which, I was truly grateful.
Some lovely dogs, some more workman like than others, some in better condition than others, a few outstanding ones and the odd one or two I’d love to own!
I am the first to admit I love a flashy dog who will stand up and show, but along with that must come the workman like qualities that make it able to be essentially a working terrier. There is nothing to suggest in my mind, that the two trains of thought can’t co-exist, they can and they must.
Nervous or aggressive dogs and there were just one or two, were not rewarded, this is surely a temperament to be discouraged. Dour is a different matter altogether, especially when its nearly always on an otherwise, super exhibit, a frustrating combination.

1st - Orangebox Stewards Enquiry Into Tufterslodge (Mr & Mrs R Greenhill & Mrs M Thomas)
Super grizzle pup who was so up together. Good head on a lovely narrow body of nice length, with a good topline and tail set both standing and moving which he does very accurately, both coming and going, on good legs and feet. Had to forego BPD as he was not in coat, but even then he pushed Betfred all the way. Look forward to seeing him mature.
2nd - Jucres Blue Knight At Hawcoat (Mrs E J & Miss R C Larner)
B/t Well grown and hope he doesn’t do to much more of it, but has lots to like about him. Masculine head and nice neck into lithe body of good length. Nice coat, showing some signs of silvering in places, with a decent pelt. Moved well albeit a bit babyish when he concentrated. Beat a very nice puppy into third just on being more the length I prefer and nothing more than that.

1st - Benattivo Betfred (Mrs S J & Mr C P Girling)
Grizzle and looking much more mature and more like the finished article. Still a little loose in his movement coming and going, but looks very stylish on the go around. Typical head and big teeth with well placed ear. Lovely body, narrow and of good length with tail well set and carried. In excellent condition throughout, with deep double coat and thick pelt. Super temperament, showed well.
2nd - Brackenfell Bok To Bach (Mr C Hall & Miss L Ellis)
Beautiful rich red, strong headed dog of lovely type. Coat was a bit heavy and hiding his good bodylines, but still of super texture with a lovely thick pelt. He demonstrated a very sound, positive action on the move from his straight front and his well angulated rear with his tail nicely carried, albeit a bit low set. Look forward to seeing him in a new jacket and troubling the best I’m sure.

1st - Chatmoss Les Diables Rouges (Mr K J & Mrs C Fielding)
A lovely light grizzle youngster in harsh coat and good condition. Masculine head with well placed keen eye and correctly set ear. Good neck and topline with lovely tail set and carriage. Could be tighter in his feet, but had correct bone and straight forelegs. Well ribbed right back to his good loin. Steps out very well and never stopped showing.
2nd - Bortino Red Emperor (Mr D K & Mrs D Martin)
Red in short tight coat which made him look a little smooth. Has good proportions to his head with nice eye and strong muzzle. Decent neck and spannable rib with longish loin. Holds a good topline both standing and on the move, which is accurate coming and going, but not quite as free and forward going as 1. A nice dog with much to like about him.

1st - Otterwood Cyrus JW (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee)
Lovely headed dog with neat ear and keen expression. Super deep double coat of good texture, which clinched this class for him. Good for size and bags of type, should appeal for his un exaggerated make and shape and happy disposition. He was in lovely condition and carrying the right amount of weight for his frame. Went round very well today with well set and carried tail and racy hind quarters.
2nd - Onthill Amaretto (Mr R & Mrs A Ramus)
Dark grizzle in good order with crisp coat . Another with a lovely head and keen expression with good body lines and firm topline on the move. Tail is well set and carried correctly, completing his nice outline. Still has some maturing to do to complete the picture, but he will and I look forward to seeing how he finishes.

A wonderful class with all five placed dogs of super quality and one or two unplaced that I’ve admired, but ‘ just ran out of cards!
1st - Ottaswell Palamedes (Mr D & Mrs G M Hunt)
Light grizzle 2 years and turning into a very handsome male. Ottery head with no sign of coarseness, dark, well set eye , correctly shaped and set ear. Good neck, shoulder and super front , with ideal bone and feet. Easily spanned, light framed, narrow body , well ribbed back to enough loin. Really racy hind-quarter and toned thighs. Tail is well set and carried, if a little long, but it is thickly rooted and didn’t spoil his outline. In super order throughout, carrying just the right amount of condition and in brand new double coat and lovely pelt. Out moved 2 and moved well in the challenge to take the CC.
2nd - Badgerbeck Uncle Fester (Miss L M Jenkins)
Another lovely male in super order. Dark grizzle with lovely head and strong jaw. The ultimate showman who catches your eye on the stand with his super outline . Good front, legs and feet with nice bone and easy span. Tail is short and set ok, but could be carried better on the move , however, it would n’t affect his ability to do his job and he has so many virtues, he had to be a contender today . In excellent jacket and pelt and shown to his advantage. Did just enough on the move to fight off the others for the RCC.

Grizzle male, with strong, masculine head, who surprised me! Thought he’d be heavier and harder to span, he absolutely was not! He has a super deep double jacket and tremendous pelt with good ribs and sufficient loin to make him balanced. Holds a good topline and has a lovely carroty tail. Nice bone right down to his good feet. He moved well enough, just lacked a little enthusiasm to beat off the other boys who were on their toes in the challenge, pleased to get my hands on him and is worthy of his title.
2nd - Badgerbeck Pablo (Miss L M Jenkins)
B/t of different stamp to one, but still a good one. Head is balanced in its proportions, but not the power in fore face of the winner. Good coloured double jacket, covering a well balanced body. Just enough bone and nice length to his straight forelegs, standing on good feet and moving well, beating another nice b/t who was my sort of border but not in the bloom of this male.

Grizzle dog with huge teeth and strong jaw. Super jacket and pelt, just carrying a little too much condition, which made him harder to span. Moved round the ring with enthusiasm.

Red baby of lovely quality who has lots to offer. Super head ear and eye with nice sized spannable body of good length. In super coat and condition, with enough bone and tight feet. Out moved 2 who was finding it hard to concentrate!
2nd - Manorcroft Take A Shot For Ravenside (Mr M Lowry)
B/t of good type and has scope. Narrow throughout with good ribs, head is developing well with strong jaw good mouth and ear although a little large is well shaped and set. Needs to settle in movement which was erratic at times and better behind than in front.

Red in short tight coat with nice head, eye and mouth. Ears need to settle. Decent neck into good body of balanced length with nice topline and tail which is short and well set. Well boned legs and tight feet on which she moved well. BPB
2nd - Tojamatt Debutante For Dowgri (Mr W & Mrs T J Baird)
Another super puppy of slightly shorter body, but again with a super head and eye, strong jaw and good mouth. Double coat of crisp texture on a pliable pelt covering a well made body. Moves and shows well. Close run decision here and will change places again and again as they mature I’m sure.

Lovely quality, grizzle who loves the show ring. Feminine well balanced head with keen eye and neat ear. Good neck into a narrow forehand and well ribbed back body of good length. In good coat and condition with good pelt. Lovely topline, tail set and thickly rooted tail, which she used on the move. Goes around with style and soundness, pushed hard in the challenge to take the RCC.
2nd - Howthwaite in Vogue (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)
Promising youngster of lovely size and balance, with feminine head, of correct proportion, but not quite the power of foreface of one. Super body and lovely coat and pelt. Holds a good outline at all times and moves very well on good legs and feet. Tail is well set on and correctly carried.

One of the best pelts and coats of the day, being both deep and double on the thickest, loose skin. Well proportioned head on well made body of good length, with strong topline and correct tail, tail set and carriage. Enough bone leading to good feet on which she moved well.
2nd - Nantcoch Ffion JW ShCM (Mrs J M Phillips)
Lovely headed bitch with dark eye and good mouth. Nice for size and body proportions and she too carries a lovely topline and tail. Moves well with purpose and soundness beating a nice headed bitch on her overall coat and condition.

Beautiful red of lovely size and nice type. Lovely head with nice eye and neat ear. In good coat and super pelt, was sound enough to take the class, but really didn’t want to be here. Light framed and of balanced outline and angulation., with good topline, tail set and carriage. Got more dour as the day went on, pity, gave her serious consideration in the challenge.
2nd - Picer Hildora (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Grizzle with lovely head, eye and mouth. Stronger all through than 1 but in excellent condition and coat was of harsh texture. Holds a nice outline on the move, with firm topline, correctly set tail and is sound with enough leg to follow a horse.

Grizzle with typical, feminine head, not overdone, with good proportions and enough strength to her jaw. Well set and placed eye with neat ear. Super front, both narrow and straight with just enough bone and good feet. Deep double ,harsh jacket on thick pelt and light framed, easily spanned body of good length. Thick tail, if a little low set, was well carried and finished a nice outline on the move. Showed well to take the CC, her third and ultimately BOB.
2nd - Badgerbeck Fiasco (Mr J Roberts)
Another nice grizzle who has lots of quality about her. Balanced in her body proportions with a lovely head and powerful jaw. Good body of sufficient length with excellent coat and pliable pelt. Has attitude and shows her socks off to catch the eye with her lovely topline, tail set and carriage, just could have stepped out a bit better behind, which cost her. A lovely trio of top class bitches.

Grizzle of 7 years and would n’t have looked out of place in open. Strong feminine head and powerful jaw set on a good neck and topline, leading to a thick carroty tail with the best of coats and pelts. In super order throughout and moved soundly on well boned legs and tight feet.
2nd - Aurora's Popcorn (Mr E Tart & Miss A E Speake)

1st - Borderella Snap Dragon (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman)
Dark grizzle in excellent coat and condition with feminine head that just needs whisker to complete the picture, but she has strength to her jaws. Narrow throughout with good topline and went round very well today with soundness and enthusiasm.
2nd - Twigglestone Elfenor (Mrs L I Aldous)
A nice headed girl of lovely type and size with good body length and strong hind quarters. She too holds a good topline and tail set with a carroty tail, just fractionally preferred narrowness of one but a close decision.
