Movement was difficult to assess under these circumstances, but most dogs seemed to cope remarkably well despite knee high mud & a water logged ring – living proof of the hardiness of the breed!
Despite the appalling weather I enjoyed my day with the Borders very much & was impressed with the overall quality of the dogs & the keen sportsmanship of the exhibitors.

1st - Bonosue Queen of the Nile ShCM (Hardman, Mr. I.A.)
13 years bitch of lovely type, very feminine otter head, good body which is easily spanned, thick pelt, great legs & feet, good tail, moved well & seemed to enjoy her day greatly
2nd - CH Fehmarn Magic Lantern JW (Mrs J Morton Shaw)
very good ultra masculine dog in great nick, excellent construction throughout with good front & rear, level topline, good coat, tail, pelt & movement, not a small dog & head not so pleasing, showed well & in good order

quality puppy who caught my eye at once, excellent outline, sound front & rear, very good legs & feet, hard coat in good order, showed well & moved with great gusto, masculine head which, could be better in ears, but I liked him a lot
2nd - Gellisown Flintstone (Mrs T Broadbent)
pleasing puppy of similar type & many of the same remarks apply, but lost out a little on showmanship & I would have liked him more positive behind

1st - Keycharm Phantom by Ridgebow (Mr N Duxbury)
sizeable masculine puppy with very good overall make & shape, excellent body & topline, wonderful pin-wire coat & moved very soundly. Head rather strong & I hope he has stopped growing, but his many good virtues won him this class
2nd - Onthill Amaretto (Mr R & Mrs A Ramus)
attractive puppy of ideal size for age, sound fore & aft, very good body & movement, excellent coat & pelt for age. Failed in eye & expression & could do with a fraction more bone. Enthusiastic showman

Disappoi6nting class overall.
1st - Kosmic Sun over Karison (Miss K Johnson)
easy winner here despite being very full in coat, good type & size, excellent body, typical head & expression, straight front but could have done with better layback of shoulder. Moved well
2nd - Chatmoss King Orry at Moddeyaalin (Mrs S A Cracknell)
larger & longer than I prefer. Very good head, eyes & ears, excellent front & shoulders, hard coat, moved OK
3rd - Houndshope Rest Dodd (Mrs M Wanless)
Res - Rexlands Little Bustard (Mrs D Pearson)
Entries: 5 Absentees: 1
1st - Chorbeck Charlie Chaplin JW (Mrs H Haughton)
masculine dog in superb coat & hard muscular condition, masculine typical head with pleasing expression, good eyes & ears, excellent spannable spring of rib, good pelt, lovely coat in pristine condition, moves with great freedom. Must not grow any bigger
2nd - Ragatam Newmarket At Badgerholme JW (Mr & Mrs B Dickinson)
appealed a lot with his excellent outline, type & size & in hard muscular condition, in very good coat, very good for size & handles well on the table. Muzzle could have been stronger & I would have preferred him less wide in front. Well presented
3rd - Foxpaw Brilliant Disguise (Mr P & Mrs H Fulker)
Res - Merumhor Midwinter JW (Mr G & Mrs H Mckenzie)

Difficult class to judge with considerable variation throughout
1st - Beaconpike Red Saturn (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)
very good overall type, excellent otter head with true expression, good body & topline. Would have liked more coat & a stronger rear. Good legs & feet
2nd - Onthill Fernando (Mr R & Mrs A M Ramus)
similar in type to 1 & equally short of coat on the day, but also well made overall & of good type & size, showed well despite the appalling weather conditions. Preferred the head of 1 & this was the deciding factor in this class
3rd - Royday Bond (Mr R Longton)
Res - Highfell Orient (Mr L Jackson & Miss I M Dugdale)
VHC - StBedehounds Frank in Sense of Raleniro ShCM (Mr M J & Mrs D A Lorraine)

Very good class with much food for thought & a pleasure to judge
1st - Dandyhow Jumping Jack at Glebeheath JW (Mrs J Guvercin)
all quality dog who appealed greatly, good size, wonderful outline, soundest of legs & feet, hard coat in immaculate condition, good pelt, strong rear, good tail, masculine head with keen expression, showed well & was in no way deterred by the mud in the ring. A very close decision in the challenge, just thought he moved a little too wide when going away & possibly not the layback of shoulder of the ultimate winner, but a lovely dog who I liked a lot. RCC
2nd - Ravenside Workforce (Mr M Lowry)
lovely dog who I have done well before, very good head & expression, excellent front & rear, good coat, body & pelt, moved well. A dog who I really like, just did not have the composure & ultimate style & deportment of 1 in this class, but in no way disgraced
3rd - Swe CH Sweeping Foxtrot For Kgills (Mr K J & Mrs G Bate)
Res - Ravenside Hurricane Run at Ridgebow JW (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
VHC - Lairehope Lord of the Glen At Tweedburn (Mrs C Archibald)

1st - Nor / Du CH Toftahill Game On (Mrs Bergstedt)
this is in fact the first time I have had the pleasure of going over this dog despite the fact that he comes from my own home country & his owner even shares my family name! This would of course not have mattered if I had not liked him, which I really do – beautiful type & size, just the right amount of bone, very typical body with adequate depth, racy hindquarters, perfect topline, harsh coat albeit a little short on the day, pleasing head, very true mover & never gave up trying, fits the Standard very well & ultimately landed the CC, BOB & G3, performing like a true Border Terrier completely unfazed by storm & wind, a great pleasure to judge
2nd - CH Foxfactor Pied Piper JW ShCM (Mrs K D Stockley)
top class dog, very masculine & in great coat & condition, very good outline, front & rear, moved well. A little more sprung in rib than I prefer & not the head of 1, but overall a very good dog who handled well & was expertly handled
3rd - Dandyhow Dr Walter (Mrs K M Irving)
Res - CH Ravenside Ballymoss (Mr M Lowry)
VHC - Iacheslei Cantus JW (Miss A Harrison)

Good class of lovely bitches
1st - Doramil Camorra (Mrs M Scale)
beautifully constructed with perfect front & clean lines throughout, sound rear, good body & typical ribcage, thick double coat & good pelt, OK in head & expression, in no way coarse & cloddy & despite inclement weather conditions a free easy mover who put on a good performance & won the CC, handled by an expert to show off her many qualities
2nd - Southash Hollywood Girl (Mr J & Mrs I M Southam)
very feminine & a little smaller than 1, good head, body & coat, stands well on sound legs. Movement not her fortune or perhaps she did not like the mud & who can blame her
3rd - Kyscafter Kestrel ShCM (Miss L S Robbins)
Res - Gameway Dragonfly JW (Mrs P Clark)
VHC - Ravenside Ma Biche At Ridgebow (Mr N Duxbury)
Entries: 12 Absentees: 3
1st - Brumberhill Blue Sky (Mr S A Mcpherson)
blue bitch & quality throughout, very soundly made with good front, perfect body & rear, good coat & best of tails, feminine head with good eye. Ears detract a little from expression & in the challenge refused to show them to advantage & who could blame her as she was standing knee-high in mud! Won the RCC after much deliberation
2nd - Grindelvald Miss Teak At Eltonfurze (Mrs A Fray)
also liked this bitch a lot, appealed greatly for overall balance, length & body proportions, good hard coat, OK in head & eye, not the strength of rear of 1 & decided that movement in a sea of mud was not for her

Res - CH Bramblebrae Violet at Shiftyfox JW (Mr G Wildey)
VHC - CH Foxyard Better Behave At Emblehope (Miss D Bladen)
