Many thanks for the lovely entry, both in terms of quality and quantity. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with the Border Terriers. When I last judged I felt there were too many with houndy large ears, this did not seem to be replicated in today’s entry which was pleasing and expression was generally much improved. What I did notice was that front action is something that we need to watch. Being Manchester and the last Championship show pre Crufts there were quite a few dogs who had been stripped in preparation and quite a few out of coat. In part that did play a part in some of my fineer placings.

Smart young dog who is nicely balanced. Was a nice start to the day. Typical in head and expression. Nice small ear. Has sufficient bone and good feet. Well ribbed back. Correct tail set and carriage. Still has some maturing to do. In good hard condition and good harsh jacket. Moved well.

1st - Sandyfaulds Finn Mccool (Mr G Grassie)
Nice young male who impressed me for his overall balance and proportions. He has a pleasing head with a good breadth of skull and a good short strong muzzle. Neat, keen dark eye and pleasing small, well carried well shaped ear. He has enough neck into well placed shoulders. His front assembly is correct. He has a depth to his chest but is narrow through and well ribbed back. Nice racy hindquarters. He has a good coat which is harsh with a good undercoat. Good pelt. Very raw puppy and needs a lot of time. On the initial go around he side-winded a little bit but managed to collect himself and later in the class moved well with correct footfall and I was pleased to award him his class
2nd - Onziemehurst The Navigator (Miss A Nettle)
Another nice puppy of good overall type. Appealed for his overall silhouette which was correct and balanced. Another with a pleasing head and expression. Nice dark eye. Pleasing front with good straight forelegs. Narrow in the body and well ribbed back. Nice hindquarters with correct angulation. Neat, small feet. Good tail which is carried well on the move. Not quite the drive of the 1st placed dog going away and out of jacket today. Will watch him with interest.

This is a very mature puppy and is at the top end of the age spectrum at 12 months. His last puppy class today I was later told. I thought he was smart as paint. He is a lovely overall shape. He has an excellent head and expression. There is enough breadth through his skull and another and another with a short strong muzzle with good underjaw and no sign of weakness. He has a keen dark eye and his ears the correct size. Pleasing moderate length of neck into well placed shoulders. His front is nicely made and his body is of good length and is narrow through. Well ribbed back. Pleasing racy hindquarters and good thick tail which is not too long. He moved well and was in a good harsh coat today. Pleased to award him this class and subsequently Best Puppy
2nd - Glebeheath Treacle (Mrs J Guvercin)
Very different type to 1. Another with a pleasing head of correct proportions. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Easily spannable. Nicely made front. Not in the best of jackets today which detracted from the overall picture. Good pelt. Moves with good reach in front but needs to strengthen up going away.

2nd - Arunmere Rhapsody In Red JW (Miss J Hughes)
This young male has the most beautiful head and expression. I thought him so very typy. Lovely dark eye and small well placed correctly shaped ears, well carried. Super length of neck into a good shoulder, nice front, not over-boned and with good tight feet. Enough depth of chest and well ribbed. Has an easy spannable body. Just slightly longer cast than the 1st dog and not in the best jacket. However, an excellent mover both fore and aft. Should do well.3. Darley’s Otterbobs Rocky at Cymrygold Ir JCh. This dog does deserve a mention, he has the most beautiful shape and size. Did well in this class and also another one who is promising.

Very nice young Border. Very appealing on initial inspection and on closer inspection he is superbly constructed. He has a very typical typical otter head and well placed ears. He is, as aforementioned, lovely to go over and of good bone with a lovely tight foot. Well ribbed. Correct top-line. Nice tail of good thickness and correct length. Tail is carried well. Good racy hindquarters. In good harsh jacket. Moved out well and looked like he could go all day
2nd - Redesholt Han Solo (Mrs S McKay)
Another nice male and another well made. Pleasing head of typical proportions. Nicely made through the neck and shoulder and narrow through the body. Good hindquarters and well placed tail, again carried well. He moved well both fore and aft. I just preferred the length of leg on the 1st dog

This was a difficult class to sort out with a number of dogs of differing styles.
1st - Tallview Play The Game at Earthtaw (Miss J Haydon)
This dog, on initial go around, did not particularly impress on the move, however given further opportunity fell right into his job and showed to me that he is a good sound mover. He is of lovely type with pleasing head and expression. Good neck and pleasing front. In good hard jacket and good hard condition. Correct body proportions and of decent bone and with nice tight feet. His hindquarters are moderate as required.
2nd - Goxfell Gotcha (Mrs J Stamp & Mr D Joyce)
Similar type to 1 and another who impressed for his overall make and shape. Handler didn’t quite get the best out of him today but for overall type he could not be denied. He has a beautiful head and expression. Lovely head. Good eye. Pleasing front, correct rear, in good jacket and has an excellent pelt, moved well when he settled.

Good class.
1st - CH Brumberhill Bit O’Blarney JW (Mr S A Mcpherson)
Quality Blue and tan. I was most impressed with this dog when I had him on the table. He has the most typical otter head. He has correct breadth of skull and nice small well shaped ears. His head is of correct proportions with a good short strong muzzle with strength of underjaw. Neat dark eye. Beautiful length of neck. Good front assembly. Lovely bone and nice tight foot. Easily spannable, he has adequate depth of chest and is narrow through and well ribbed back. His top-line and tail set are correct, in excellent harsh top jacket. I have judged this dog previously as a junior and felt he needed a lot of maturing and to settle in front, he has done this I abundance and was much improved. This dog is excellent on the move and he moves with required drive. Easy winner of this class and subsequently was pleased to award him DCC and BOB
2nd - Ravenside Rasputin (Mr M Lowry)
Another very typy Border Terrier who I thought was excellent for size and overall shape. He has a very nice head with a typical otter type skull, he has breadth over the skull, his ears which are small and well placed. Strong in muzzle with no evidence of lack of underjaw and good dark nose. He has a pleasing neck into well placed shoulders. His forelegs are straight and not overdone in bone. He is narrow through and easily spannable. Correct top-line. Racy in the hindquarters, good short tail, thick at the base and which he carries well. He was excellent on the move and very pleasing both fore and aft. Pushed the winner of open hard however I just felt he was blowing his coat which took the advantage to the 1st placed dog and I just slightly preferred the tightness of foot on one. RDCC. I hope his title comes he is more than deserving.

I really liked this veteran dog. He is up to size but apart from that there is much to like and he has qualities in abundance. Typical head with correct head proportions. Good breadth through the skull. Nicely placed ears. Dark eye with keen expression and a nicely furnished head. His neck is of good strength and correct length. Lovely front assembly, deep through the body and well ribbed back. He is well muscled in the hindquarters which are angulated correctly and has nice bone with good small feet. Correct tail and moved well. I thought him a super dog and he was in contention for the RDCC, BV.
2nd - Mysulan Going Solo JW VW (Mrs S J Baxter)
Blue and tan, another that is very typical and has many qualities to admire. Slightly better for size than one. Pleasing head and expression. Good front with good bone and feet. I would prefer a little more length of neck to complete the overall picture which was where he lacked over 1 today. Good body with deep narrow chest, well ribbed back, strong in the loin and well carried tail. Another who moved well despite his older age.

This was a well filled class with a number of very promising young puppy bitches. There was a variety with regard to size, type and maturity.
1st - Glebeheath Marigold (Mrs J Guvercin)
Heading this class was one of my stars of the day, this is a beautiful Border Terrier bitch who immediately appealed as soon as I saw her come into the ring. On closer examination she is all of a piece. She has an excellent headpiece with a good breadth of skull, good overall head proportions, neat small ears, good strong short muzzle and her headpiece is nicely furnished.
Good length of neck into well alid shoulders. She is well boned for a bitch and has good tight feet. Narrow through the body but well ribbed back, good top-line, correct tail set. Excellent hindquarters which she used well on the move. She has an excellent harsh jacket which was well put down and has a good depth of undercoat. Footfall was perfect and she had that extra bit of showmanship which took her to the top of this interesting and good quality class. In the challenge she upped her game even further and on the go around I found her quite lovely. It was a surprise but a pleasure to go down the line and award her the RBCC from MPB, I really hope she does well and wish her so. BP and RCC.
2nd - Borderrush Riscal Rioja (Miss A J Hall)
Another very typy young bitch. Different in type from 1. Another very promising bitch. Not quite as finished or as mature as the first placed bitch. Very pleasing head and expression. Neat small ears. Excellent front assembly. Good depth to the chest and narrow through. Well ribbed back for a bitch. Strong in loin. Excellent hindquarters. Movement was precise and has an excellent side gait. I thought these 2 bitches were excellent as were all those placed in this class.

2nd - Wilholme Angels Envy (Mr D Shields & Ms I Glen)
A lighter coloured bitch who initially appeared out of coat but on examination she has really a nice tight harsh coat which is covering a good undercoat. She is another with a lovely head and expression. She has a good front with neat small feet and good bone. Well ribbed. Strong in the loin. Correct racy hindquarters. A little proud of her tail if I’m being critical but I forgave this as a youngster. Another with footfall that was excellent fore and aft and pleasing going around. Should do well.

Red bitch with a classical outline. She has a beautiful head and expression and a good front assembly. Clean through the neck. Easily spannable. Well ribbed back. Neat bone and tight foot. Racy in the hindquarters. Tail set on is correct. Moved well.
2nd - Arunmere Nighthawk (Miss J Hughes)
Blue and tan/grizzle. Many of the qualities of the 1st placed bitch also apply here. Lovely for make and shape and lovely for size. Good front and is balanced through. I thought she was lovely on the go around but not quite as precise as the 1st placed bitch coming towards you. This cost her a place but nevertheless this is a very nice bitch who should do well

Neat dark eye and overall has a lovely and typical expression. Good clean neck into well placed shoulders. Correct top-line, well ribbed back. Nice hindquarters. Moved well with drive from the rear.

This was a very difficult class to sort out as again there was a variance of type, size and maturity. The first two bitches were very different, both carry their title and both richly deserved to do so.
1st - CH Liatch Madame Pommery at Wilholme JW ShCEx OSW (Mr D Shields & Ms I Glen)
Impressed me for her good size and balance. She is moderate and balanced throughout. Typical head, she has breadth through her skull without being overdone, well placed ears, correct stop, good strong muzzle of correct length, she has strength through the foreface but in no way loses on feminity. Clean neck into good shoulders. Neat front assembly with good bone and nice tight foot. She has depth in her chest and is well ribbed back. Strong loin. Held her topline throughout. I liked her racy hindquarters which are well muscled. She was in excellent jacket and moved with preciseness both fore and aft and has a nice profile on the side gait. She won this class and subsequently annexed the BCC which I was pleased to award her
2nd - CH Bohamer York'ist Celeste By Tythrop (Mrs J L Lee)
Very different in type and another with very much to like with an abundance of quality. This is a larger bitch to 1 and for my preference, I preferred the size of the 1st placed bitch. She has a very balanced outline, I think her front assembly was one of the best in the entry today. Solid topline, strong in the loin, one of the best pelts I felt all day. In excellent harsh coat. Well set on tail. Excellent tail of good thick strength and well tapered. Upright in pasterns. Movement was excellent

This is a 7 year old bitch who I would like to have had in the ring in her heyday. She is very pleasing to go over with an overall excellent construction. She is good for size. Her front is very nice and she has a super neck and shoulder. Quality jacket although just losing a bit of colour with her age. She was a very precise mover. A very nice veteran and a pleasure to see her enjoying her day out. Good mover
