My thanks to the committee of Windsor Championship Dog for their invitation to judge at this show which is so efficiently organised and well run. Thanks also to my stewards Elaine Waddingham and Lynn Crane for their help and assistance in keeping the ring running smoothly at all times. My appreciation also to the exhibitors for their entries .
As usual at Windsor the ring was large in/out with lots of space for dogs to move freely and a fairly flat surface enabling movement to be assessed, without being forced to stop/start when moving the whole class. In general the dogs were in good condition and I found no dogs that were not entire. Although teeth were generally good, apart from a few misaligned, they varied greatly from very small to huge in size. Disappointed to see a few light eyes creeping in.
Coats varied as always with many shown in soft undercoat but lacking topcoat, but worryingly I found several with a decent topcoat but very little undercoat. Movement particularly at the front end continues to be of concern, whilst a puppy can improve and tighten in front as it matures, moving wide or high stepping in an older exhibit is difficult to change,
Generally the standard of the bitches was better than that of the dogs.

1st - Borderella Day Tripper JW ShCM (Mrs P South)
7 year old grizzle & tan with a strong head and dark eye who is nice for size and good in outline. Liked his topline on the move but moves better behind than in front.
Coat coming through but a little upright in shoulder. In good condition.

1st - Etterbern Sloane Ranger (Mr L Reynolds & Miss S Marston - Pollock)
Just 6 months g/tan. Smaller type who carries a lovely head with short muzzle and ears carried close to his head. Excellent harsh coat with thick undercoat. Straightest of fronts , good in shoulder and rear angulation. Moved OK. I thought both exhibits in this class were a little short in rib.
2nd - Roxambor Space Invader (Mr B J & Mrs A E Read)
6 ½ month blue & tan. Rangier type, rather on the leg for one so young. Not the head qualities of the winner with ears rather large, but does have a super bite of large teeth, straight front and nice length of neck. Needs to tighten in front movement. Carrying a tight harsh coat.

1st - Benattivo Gun Fire At Rubyfin (Mrs S J Channer)
10 month g/tan who moved the best in this class with drive and enthusiasm. Short muzzle of good width and neat ‘V’ shaped ears. Correct size for age with neat feet and a good underline. He was in full double coat with a loose pelt. Tail set a little low which reflects in his topline but good enough to win BEST PUPPY DOG
2nd - Cedarhill Shining Star At Nookshot (Miss R C Newman)
11 month g/tan. A heavier type than the winner but another with a strong muzzle and good underjaw. Excellent length of neck flows into well placed shoulder. Tight coat and pelt, muscular rear end. Lost on front movement to the winner.
3rd - Southash Deputy Sheriff At Smurfski (Mr J Yore)
Liked this one for his confident movement. Of good size he carries a harsh pliable coat. Lovely deep 2nd thigh. Rather plain in head not helped by lack of furnishings.

1st - Dandyhow Galloping Gourmet JW (Mrs K Irving)
Lots to like about this 18 month g/tan who is well put together. An ideal size he is in good muscular condition with a keen expression and has a correct bite of large teeth. Carrying a full coat today with lots of undercoat. Good in profile, narrow front with well set on tail he moves on neat feet better at the rear than in front. Close up to the winners I am certain his day will come.
2nd - Orangebox Dark Energy (Mr M & Mrs T Anscombe)
15 month b/tan with a strong head of good proportions and an alert expression, straight front and tight feet. Liked his length of rib and carries his tail well. Harsh topcoat. Moved OK. Would prefer more ticking to complete the picture.
3rd - Picer Fellemburg (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Different type, strongly made all through with ample bone. Good bite of huge teeth and little stop. Spannable with good angulation at rear and thick tail. In full coat with a thick pliable pelt he moved steadily.

Both dogs in this class of similar type being on the leg, longish in loin and with very little coat but I could span both.
1st - Stowthorney Mr Tickle JW (Mr R Brewster & Ms J Green)
Preferred this dog for his stronger head and better movement. He has a strong, deep muzzle and good expression with ribs carried well back. He moves well at both ends. If you are showing with no coat please do not leave a ruff on the knuckles.
2nd - Roxambor Magical Timepiece (Mr B J & Mrs A E Read)
Finer in head than the winner but has large teeth and good reach of neck. Nice level topline but a little loose in movement. His lack of coat showed off his fit condition.

1st - Breckgreen Soldier Blue (Mrs. J. Green)
Well ticked b/tan whose coat is coming through harsh. Of good size he carries a bite of large teeth but his head could be stronger. Has sufficient bone and a good depth of rib. In muscular condition with a straight front and strong quarters he moves well both coming and going
2nd - Nookshot Nutcracker (Miss R C Newman)
Quality headed dog of correct spannable size. He has a good bite in a short strong muzzle with nice eye, little stop and flat skull with small well placed ears. Good shoulder construction and front with well set tail. Let down by poor movement particularly in front.
3rd - Rhozzum Gwilym (Mrs M Sharp)
Good headed b/tan dog with strong jaw and bite of large teeth with small ears. Spans well, in full coat with a loose pelt. Moved OK but not enjoying his day out.

1st - Bandicoot Doc Martin (Ms V L K Docwra)
Leggier type but difficult to fault being spannable, balanced and well constructed throughout. Lovely head and strong muzzle with excellent bite. Straightest of fronts, neat feet and good lay of shoulder, narrow throughout. Super length of rib, strong loin and well placed tail. Moves confidently and true covering the ground well. Has a good pelt but wished he was carrying a little more coat today.
Well handled to the RESERVE DOG CC
2nd - Gameway Mcvitie JW (Mrs P Clark)
Close up to the winner and lots to like. Correct size and just righr for bone, spanning easily. Good strong jaw but a fraction heavy in ear. Well placed shoulder and excellent length and shape of rib. Strong well angulated muscular rear end. Lovely topline and nice carrot tail held correctly when moving well. Loose pelt but another needing a fraction more coat today.
3rd - Otterwood Caius JW ShCM (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee)
Carrying a good head and expression with well placed dark eye. Nice front and good length of body, well made throughout. In full harsh b/tan coat with ticking and undercoat. Good tail and well let down hocks Moved well both enda but lacked enthusiasm for the ring.

1st - CH Badgerbeck Uncle Fester (Miss L M Jenkins)
What a super dog, out of the top drawer. Excellent for size and so well balanced when handled to span well. Everything as it should be and nothing exaggerated. Head so well proportioned, excellent skull shape with bite of large teeth. Straight, narrow front with the best of neat, tight well padded feet. Good neck flows into well laid back shoulder. Good in body and underline with best of tail sets and topline. His well muscled rear end is used to advantage when driving out well from behind with good front extension. His double coat is at its best with a thick pelt. Pleased to award him DOG CC & BEST OF BREED
2nd - Wadesleia Mr Herriot (Mrs H A & Mr A Fletcher)
One I have awarded best puppy in breed previously but with a different handler today and the dog was very unsettled. Has the best of heads with a short muzzle, large teeth, no stop and with a wicked expression. Strong neck leads to straight front, he has good bone and perfectly set on thick tail. Strong loin but shorter in body length than some. Coat harsh but have seen it better. Moved well when settled but a real handful today.
3rd - Dandyhow Douglas Fir (Mr T & Miss K Wrenn & Langdon)
An upstanding dog who carries a good example of a well ticked b/tan coat, that is harsh on a loose pelt. Large head with straight front, strong loin and well set tail, moving OK. Too deep in rib, oversize and just too much of him for me..

Lots of quality about this 8 year old who is well put together and won this class with ease. Lovely head proportions and strong muzzle. Looks good in profile and well angulated both ends. Strong neck flows into a level topline through to her short carrot tail. In crisp double coat, she moved soundly both ways and was considered for higher honours.
2nd - Gameway Cappuccino of Withershins ShCM (Mr M J Day)
A real veteran well over 11years, enjoying her day out. Smaller type with excellent shoulder placement. Lovely flat skull and dark eye, she maintains her topline when moving, ending in a small well set tail. She has a dense double coat and thick pelt used to cover her ample figure. Moved steadily.
3rd - Lutrabeck Layla (Mrs S A & Mr M J & Miss J Taylor)
8 year old in good condition but lacks the head qualities of 1 & 2. She has neat ears, clean shoulders, good underline and another short tail. With little coat today her front movement is rather wide and loose.

At just over 6 months I really liked this g/tan of a smaller type. She has a head of good shape with lovely bite, eye and little stop. Neat feet with a good front construction and rib shape, decent body length through to well developed hindquarters for one so young. Good double coat and correct tail. Impressed by the way she drives round the ring with lovely free movement enough for me to award her
BEST PUPPY BITCH & BEST PUPPY IN BREED
2nd - Roxambor Triple Step (Mr B J & Mrs A E Read)
Litter sister to 2nd in minor puppy dog and the same comments as him apply, On the leg, her head needs to develop. She has a good neck and front with well set tail. Coat coming through but rather straight behind. Movement should tighten as she matures.

1st - Quite Fiery Lucifer by Badgerbeck (Miss L M Jenkins)
10 month b/tan. A good sized pup with decent head, an OK bite with large teeth, lovely flat skull and little stop. Nicely shaped ears, good feet on straight legs, correctly shaped ribs, well set short carrot tail. Has a firm muscular rear end and is in good condition. Harsh double coat and moved well to and fro.
2nd - Chesterton Caboodle (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney)
Her first birthday today, this g/tan has a super front end. Feminine head with good bite, large teeth and well shaped flat skull. Best of necks into a straight narrow front on
tight feet. Shoulders so well laid back with nice flat rib. Rather long in loin, her tail is rather low set and wispy. Carrying a good coat she moves well.
3rd - Bromsden Skyfall (Mrs L J Vintcent)
11 month g/tan. A decent well proportioned pup with lovely head and keen expression. Nice clean neck and shoulders with a good front. Nice body shape but again not the rear end to match where I would prefer more angulation and a better topline. Good harsh coat and she moves steadily.

Very attractive and appealing youngster who will win at a high level. Nicely put together in all areas. A good size size with quality head and expression. Nice neck, front and good layback of shoulder. Strongly made rear assembly with good bend of stifle, used to stride out well. Carries a tight coat with thick pelt. Well trained,
2nd - Thistlestone Rhyme N' Reason (Miss J & Mr S May & Whisker)
Slightly larger than the winner but she spans OK. Good bite of large teeth, with well placed neat ears. Straight front with neat feet and sufficient bone. Good in shoulder and for length of ribs, she has a level topline on the move with a short well set tail..In good condition and uses her strong hindquarters to move well. Not quite the coat and pelt quality of the winner today
3rd - Picer Flora Mcivor JW (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
This one appears heavier than she actually is. She has a decent head with a correct bite of large teeth in a strong jaw. A little heavy in ear she has a strong neck and correct shoulder on a straight front. Flat ribbed she is in firm condition and moves steadily. Has a thick tail, coat and pelt.

1st - Bardenfox Pussy Galore JW (Mr K H & Mrs D Moore)
What a good looking g/tan this is, a lovely size and well balanced throughout who looks good in outline. A super head with keen expression , nice short strong muzzle with large teeth in a strong jaw. Well placed ears, with a neat front construction carried on tight small feet. Narrow body throughout, she spans well, her body length is good with a tail straight off the back end. Strong rear end with well defined muscle and good in stifle, used to move well with drive and purpose. Her double coat is at its best being thick and harsh carried on a loose pelt. RESERVE BITCH CC
2nd - Mulberry Blossom (Miss H De Boorder)
G/tan by my dog CC I note and has many of his best qualities. A good size she has a lovely head with good bite. Nice front and another with neat, tight feet. Just right for bone with lovely flat ribs and strong loin. In fit condition with good bend of stifle, carrying a harsh double coat and good pelt. Tail set is fine but lost out on movement to the winner, moving well at the rear but not as positive in front..
3rd - Ianteg Red Rubi JW ShCM (Miss S Ritchie)
Strong headed bitch with dark eye, bite of large teeth, strong jaw and flat skull but a little heavy in the ear. OK in neck with a good front and body, with ribs carried well back. Strong hindquarters, with hocks well let down and a nicely placed tail moving well. Has a thick coat but not quite the texture of the winner today.

1st - Argentail Titania by Onthill (Mr R & Mrs A Ramus)
An attractive red who looks good from all corners. A decent size with typical head and expression. A strong bite of large teeth and good width of skull. Narrow front with well padded feet. Nice in body and strong rear end with deep muscular thighs. Neat underline and good tail set carrying a double coat that is harsh and thick. Strode out well when moving soundly.
2nd - Tarkaswell Doctor's Orders JW (Mrs C E Sansom)
Well known red who I gave 1st in MPB on her debut the last time I judged. She does not disappoint with maturity. Neat head with well placed ears, dark eye and good bite. Narrow front with well placed shoulders, sufficient bone and neat feet. Good length of body but just thought her tail set was a fraction low with more than sufficient rear angulation.. In correct coat she was handled well and moved steadily
3rd - Torryburn Cadenza (Miss J Aldis)
Of a smaller type, this is a well proportioned bitch who has a very feminine and typical head, well shaped with a short muzzle and nicely placed ears. Lovely front with strong loin and good rear angulation. In good coat she moves well both coming and going using a good tail to maintain her level topline on the move. Not as enthusiastic as some.

1st - Smalesmouth Skylark (Mrs J Roberts)
This bitch has improved since I last judged her. Of a rangier type she is narrow all through. Her head has a scissor bite of large teeth in a strong jaw with a nice dark eye. With a straight front she is well balanced when viewed from the side, with good reach of neck flowing into shoulders that are well placed. Lovely flat ribs, decent length of loin through to well defined muscular thighs and well set tail. Carrying a thick coat and pelt she moves true with a long easy stride that could follow a horse all day. Considered for higher honours.
2nd - Baywillow Brown Braid JW ShCM (Mrs G Hyslop)
A mature bitch who is of a smaller more compact type. She has a pleasing head and expression with a short strong muzzle, flat skull and small neat ears. A strong muscular neck leads to a straight front with legs that need a fraction more length. Well made in body she has the best of short thick well set tails. Carrying a good jacket and loose pelt she moves well at both ends with a good steady action.
3rd - Brumberhill Bollinger For Chesterton (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney)
Another finer type who is up to size but narrow. With large teeth and strong bite but muzzle could be a little shorter. She has a nicely constructed body with a straight front, good in shoulder and correctly shaped ribs carried well back. Sound rear end with good bend of stifle. Coat is harsh and thick but about to go over. Moved well but lacked a little confidence.

What a cracking light g/tan bitch this is. Of an excellent size she is very well balanced and beautifully constructed both in forequarters and hindquarters. Easily spanned and handled so well. Her head is well proportioned with a super bite in a short strong muzzle with nicely set ears. Viewed from the front she is straight and narrow carrying the best of neat feet. With a good body length and shape she is in fit condition but not over muscled. Lovely rear angulation shows off her perfectly placed carrot tail. In good textured double coat with pliable pelt she moves with style using an economical stride. Her handler certainly gets the best from her. A difficult decision for best of breed. BITCH CC
2nd - CH Tarkaswell Double Agent JW ShCM (Mrs C E Samsom)
A high quality bitch who is difficult to fault. She is of a good type and size and so well schooled. A good feminine head with pleasing expression. Her mouth has a strong bite of large teeth, good eye and well placed ears. Her underline is good with her straight, narrow front carrying just the right amount of bone. The tail is correctly set and she moves out well with confidence both coming and going. In good harsh coat and pelt she was close up but just preferred the topline and angles of the winner.
3rd - CH Nantcoch Ffion JW ShCM (Mrs J M Phillips)
A bitch who I have given a RCC previously and still in good order with a head of good proportions, strong jaw and a bite of large teeth, she exhibits a good expression. Her front is narrow and straight finished off with neat feet. With good front angles her topline is good on the move complementes by a well placed tail carried well. She moves well both ways and has a tight coat but would have preferred the coat a little further through today.

A rising 7 year old g/tan who is up to size but just spannable. Good head and expression with well placed ears, Straight front but deep enough in rib. She was in good condition with a thick double coat on a loose pelt and moved OK.
2nd - Twigglestone Elfenor JW ShCM (Mrs L I Aldous)
3 year old of a good size but cobbier type. She has a typical head with a short strong muzzle, good bite and little stop. Good front construction with a firm topline and short carrot tail. In full double coat she moved OK but not the muscle condition of the winner.
3rd - Borderella Snap Dragon (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman)
almost 4 this g/tan has lots to like with a decent head and short muzzle. She has a good length of neck into correct shoulders with well set tail. In tight coat, she moved OK but not with the topline of some and was a little weighty today.
