I would like to thank the Border terrier Club for the invitation to judge at the Open Show at Low Hesket. It was an honour and privilege to be offered this appointment. I was delighted with the super entry of 96 dogs making a total entry of 132 and appreciate the turnout of so many fine dogs on the day and the sporting way my decisions were taken. Thank you to my ring stewards Ken McKenzie and Dave Hodgson for keeping everything running smoothly for me. Also thank you to the committee for their hospitality and to Jane Shaw for providing a lovely lunch which I enjoyed very much.

1st - Ridgebow Tracker (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
A very nice 7 month old g/t dog . He has a lovely otter head with short muzzle and dark eyes giving him a keen expression. He has a moderate length of body with a good topline which he carried on the move, with short tail straight off the back . He has a nice straight front with neat feet. He is well muscled for one so young and nicely angulated at the rear . He has a super dense harsh double jacket with plenty of pelt. He moved ok .
2nd - Picer Fellemburg (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Another nice g/t 8 month old puppy with a super head, with broad, flat skull and strong muzzle. He is built on narrow lines with a straight front and a good bend of stifle. He has a thick harsh coat and loose pelt. He has neat feet and good length of body. He moved ok, I just preferred the size of my winner.

Lovely 10 month old g/t puppy with a good head with a strong muzzle and neat ears. He has a good reach of neck and a straight front assembly, very narrow. He is not so well angulated behind as my winner but has a super harsh tight jacket and loose pelt. He moved soundly.

1st - Carrock Carnegie (Ms J Fawcett)
A smart g/t border with a typical otter head with a broad skull and strong muzzle with nice big teeth. He has a good reach of neck, straight front and is narrow throughout with the neatest of feet. He was shown today in full coat with thick pelt. He is a very strong type, but a bit tall for me. He moved okay.
2nd - Bandicoot Jimmy Choo At Northborders (Miss J North)
This dark g/t border is a different type to my winner. He has a good head with his dark eyes giving him a keen expression. He has a much racier outline being built on finer lines than the winner with a lovely topline and tail well set on. I liked his handy size. Moved okay.

2nd - Dymanti Roman Warrior at Nottorg ShCM (Mr P J & Mrs A K Taylor)
Different type from winner. Good head with a longer muzzle. A nice type, slightly deeper in chest than first and shown today in a full coat. I liked his size, sadly he didn’t want to be here today but moved okay.

A g/t dog with good head with flat skull and strong muzzle with neat ears and keen eye. He is a lovely size with good topline and tailset. Nice racy puppy narrow throughout. He has a lovely coat coming in with plenty of loose thick pelt. He was just a bit unsettled today for his handler which cost him in the earlier class.
2nd - Royday Noggin The Nog At Bonosue (Mr I A & Mrs L A Hardman)
Different type to my winner. G/t with a super head , broad skull and short strong muzzle. Much heavier in build, not as narrow in front with good harsh coat and pelt. Moved okay.

1st - Tyneaster Undercover Agent For Vandamere (Mr S Pollit)
Almost 10 months old g/t and reserve in my MPD class. He has a strong head but I would prefer a shorter muzzle and more fill under the eyes. He is narrow throughout with a good reach of neck and was well presented in a harsh coat. He is up on the leg , I hope he does not grow on.
2nd - Earthwise Restless Knight At Pertyck (Mr R Bratton)
18 months old B/t dog. Nice headed dog with a good expression but not the strength in muzzle as winner. He has neat catlike feet, a good short tail and I like his handy size. His was shown in a very full coat today which might have benefited from a tidy up.

1st - Wadesleia Mr Herriot (Mrs H A & Mr A Fletcher)
A light g/t tan dog that I have judged before and liked. He was just out of puppy the last time and he has matured nicely. He has a super otter head with broad, flat skull and a dark eye that gives him that varmint look with neat ears close to cheek. His muzzle is short and strong and he has nice big teeth. He has a good reach of neck that flows into a lovely top line with a short carrot tail straight off his back. He is narrow throughout and has a straight front with catlike feet and good rear angulation. He moved well both ways. He was my BD and it was a very close call in the challenge for BIS, but I felt the bitch just put in a bit more at that point. I was pleased to award him RBIS and BOS.
2nd - Keycharm Phantom by Ridgebow JW (Mr N Duxbury)
A rich g/t dog that also has a super head, very strong and masculine. He is a lovely rich dark red grizzle and is longer in the body and a tad deeper in chest than winner. He has a nice straight front, good topline and catlike feet. He has a good coat and pelt and was in fit condition. He showed well and moved true. (RBD)

15 month old g/t bitch who has a lovely strong head with short muzzle and dark eye which gave her a keen expression. She is a typical border who is not as showy as some but lots to like about her. She was shown in full coat with lots of loose pelt underneath which made her look heavier than she really is. She had tidy feet and a short carroty tail. Did not move as well as my winner.
