Thank you to the officers and committee of Windsor Championship Dog Show for the invitation to judge at this level for the first time at such a prestigious show. I must also thank my two very experienced stewards Bill & Trish Gray who were a great support to me with their calm, friendly and pleasant manner. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to all the exhibitors who entered their border terriers under me and accepted my decisions in a sporting manner.
The weather became very hot as the day progressed with some dogs flagging a little on the move. Fortunately we had some shade via the marquee, the grass had got quite dried out and I felt a few exhibits didn’t move as well as others on it but generally movement was better than I have observed in the past. I must also mention how disappointed I was to find so many exhibits with dirty teeth, cleaning them should be part of a dog’s care and grooming routine.
I was so delighted with my top winning border terriers that I felt had exceptional breed quality and were presented and shown to best advantage.
Many quality exhibits were in some classes down the line or unplaced due to the depth of quality present and on another day may change places.

Eye catching boy that has breed quality and balance from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. He has a very handsome otter like head with neat small v shaped ears; moderately broad skull, short strong muzzle and a dark eye all making for the keen expression. I was particularly pleased with his lovely straight forelegs that are just right for bone and he stands on neat well-padded feet. His moderate length of neck flows into a level top line and well set on tail he covered the ground effortlessly. I look forward to watching his progress as he matures. Pleased to award him Best Puppy amongst strong competition.

This grizzle/tan caught my eye immediately with his ring presence. He was turned out in the best of condition and looked active and game. He has a pleasing otter like head with dark eyes. His moderate length of neck flowed into a good top line and his tail is of correct length, thick at the base, set and carried well on the move. I liked his narrow body and the rib was carried back well with strong loins and racy hindquarters, he moved accurately coming and going. I was delighted to award this young male Reserve CC and look forward to following his career in the UK and on the Continent where he lives.
2nd - Botterox Flint (Miss S L Hillman)
A grizzle/tan with a masculine head, a short strong muzzle and big teeth. He was easily spanned with a good length of rib and a good top line. His deep coat was harsh and dense with close undercoat. With pleasing angulations fore and aft it gave a picture of his good balance, moving soundly in profile. He went well, just pipped by an outstanding exhibit today, another youngster with promise.

She was presented in a lovely harsh coat with a loose thick pelt which covered a fit narrow body. Her forelegs are straight and she has good rear angulation, which helped her move around the ring with an active stride. She had to head this class for being so youthful and remaining animated as she thoroughly enjoyed her day out.

I judged this bitch when she was 13 months old and was delighted to have the chance of judging her again as an adult to discover that she has matured into a lovely border terrier of great quality. Her feminine head has a strong short muzzle with good teeth. I admired her clean neck, top line, tail carriage and overall flowing narrow bodylines as she moved effortlessly with elegance around the ring. Moving well with good reach and drive that secured this class win today. She was in short new coat that had texture, when it came to the challenge the depth of coat to my CC winner just nudged the decision to award her the RCC. I was delighted later in the day to see her made up to a champion, many congratulations.
