Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge their open show held at Jedburgh, the home of the border terrier. It was a great privilege, and I had some amazing dogs present who are a credit to their owners, thank you for bringing them.
Thank you to my stewards for organising the rings so smoothly and keeping me on track so we finished at a reasonable time. The hospitality was second to none and I would like to thank the whole committee for this.

1st - Ravenside Rasputin (Mr M Lowry)
7-month-old grizzle and tan puppy who was really enjoying his day out, as they should be at this age. Plenty of character and taking it all in his stride. I found him very promising with a lovey front and rib and presenting a very balanced picture which is finished off with a cracking short carrot tail. Shown in correct jacket with pelt. Still needs time to develop in head and movement to settle as he matures.

1st - Mysulan Byards Legend (Mrs S J Baxter)
10-month-old mature grizzle and tan puppy presented in top order, coat of correct texture with depth of undercoat and pelt in evidence. Typical head with well set ears, dark eye, strong jaw housing large teeth. Nice shoulder, front and rib making him very easy to span. Sound steady movement around the ring.
2nd - Raedwulf Moonlight (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
Another 10-month-old puppy developing well. Sporting a good coat of texture and depth. Conditionally sound and balanced who moved well around the ring. I just preferred the size of the winner today but can see these two switch places on numerous occasions as they progress through the classes.
3rd - Otterbobs Quiggins (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)

1st - Beaconpike Caelus (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)
12 months on the day of the show so still a puppy. This dog really did appeal to me and went on to be Best Dog and Reserve Best In Show and Best Puppy In Show. Head of correct proportions, dark eye, small ears dropping to the cheek which frame his expression. Both on the move and in the stack, he is balanced with his straight front, length of body and moderate size. Another one presented in a correct double coat of texture and depth. He moved soundly around the ring with reach and drive, continued to be on top form right through the day.
2nd - Raedwulf Moonlight (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
Repeat – 2nd in Puppy Dog
3rd - Otterbobs Quiggins (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)

1st - Hightarn Blackthorn (Mr B & Mrs L Rostron)
9-month-old blue and tan puppy that still needs time to develop. Presented in good order with a fabulous coat with thick skin. Good in rib, shoulder, and rear. Moved Ok
2nd - Picer He's The Gaffer (Miss C Blackie & Mr L Page)
Almost 12-month-old grizzle with a strong masculine head housing a correct bite with large teeth. Unfortunately, was out of coat today but has a dense undercoat and thick pelt. Ok in front, shoulder, and rib. Handled to advantage by his young owner.
3rd - Mr Blue Boy (Mr D & Ms I Ashton)

1st - Tyneotter Bolt From The Blue (Mrs N Anderson)
Masculine blue and tan with such a typical head that attracts the attention. He really looks like he can do a day’s work very sound in movement and balance. Coat is just coming through but evidence of texture and depth. Spannable with good shoulder and rib. Rear angulation drives his movement from behind.
2nd - Elemcella Bar Tender (Mr C Tait)
Grizzle and tan who was also very sound and looked capable of doing a day on the fells. Head of correct proportions but not as strong as 1st place. Balanced on the moving holding his profile and uses his tail well which is of a nice length and well set. Short of coat today but coming in.
3rd - Hightarn Nightfall At Roseghyll (Mrs A Johnson)
Res - Lairehope Bijou (Mr P & Mrs K Lothian)
VHC - Whittonglebe Poacher (Mr G & Mrs J Mackenzie)

Close decision between 1 and 2 in this class
1st - Raedwulf Nightfall JW (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
Grizzle and tan of nice size who really knows how to make the most of himself which is what gave him the edge over 2nd. Typical in head with strong muzzle and correct dentition. Presented in dense double jacket. Straight front supported by the neatest of feet. Correct in shoulder and spannable. Balanced and moderate and moved with drive around the ring, went on to be awarded Reserve Best Dog.
2nd - Ravenside Run To Me At Sandyfaulds (Mr G Grassie)
Similar remarks apply to this grizzle dog another presented in good coat and condition. Attractive head with small ears, correct bite with large teeth. He is narrow but with scope, moved well but I felt he never quite got going in the ring today.
3rd - Thornheswin Huntsman (Mr. J.C.Dixon)
Res - Kentixen Mint Imperial At Roseghyll (Mrs A Johnson)
VHC - Knowecrag Tam O'shanter By Irton (Mr D & Mrs A Fryer)

1st - Cedarhill Dish Of The Day For Dexlin (Mr B & Mrs L P Inness)
5-year-old grizzle and tan who appealed for breed type, very typical in head and expression. Balanced on the move and in the stack and is very nice to go over with everything in its place flowing freely down the body to a well set on short tail. Presented in thick coat with pelt. Scored over second on movement today, just lost his spark in the final challenge.
2nd - Thornheswin Ring Of Fire (Mr J C Dixon)
Another mature dog that is very typey and could do a day’s work. Presented in thick jacket with pliable pelt. Strong headpiece of correct proportions with punishing expression. Couldn’t match movement today.
3rd - Hollexby Travellin Man (Mr P Appleby)
Entries: 5 Absentees: 2
A lovely class of young puppies will watch with interested as they progress.
1st - Elemcella Give Me Honey (Mr C Tait)
7-month-old blue and tan puppy who was presented today in full coat just passing its best. Still needs to develop in head and generally mature but has a lot of promised and moved the best in the class to secure her place today.
2nd - Sticklepike Angel On High (Master H Park)
6-month-old grizzle more developed in head than 1 with strong muzzle and well-set ears. Presented in tidy coat of correct texture, was unsettled on the move today but again shows promise
3rd - Sticklepike Breaking Dawn At Kadaredhills (Mrs J Potts)
Entries: 5 Absentees: 2
1st - Remony Rose Gold (Mrs A E Gregory)
10-month-old grizzle puppy who is so well put together, very balanced in outline and on the move holds level topline. Super jacket with plenty of pelt and thick skin. Scored over 2 in head today
2nd - Raedwulf Moondance (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
10-month-old grizzle who pushed 1st hard in this class. Shown in new jacket of correct texture which showed off her balanced outline. Moved well with drive from the rear and positive in front. I am sure these two will swap places going forward.
3rd - Ragatam Adelphi (L Simpson)
Entries: 13 Absentees: 4
1st - Stineval Sasha (Mr A & Mrs C Horner)
This bitch has the most beautiful head and expression with small ears framing her expression. With well placed shoulders flowing into a spannable rib, level topline finished off with a well set on carrot shaped tail. She moved with drive around the ring on small catlike feet. Considered in the challenge.
2nd - Valicetarn Vienna Eclipse at Sandyfaulds (Mr G Grassie)
Another grizzle in good coat with pelt. She is moderate throughout, good in rib and loin with a well-set tail. Very feminine in overall appearance and head. Moved Ok.

1st - Havencroft Emerald Via Kewhaigh (Mrs N A Cummins)
One I have judged before as a puppy and nice to see her developed into a mature dog. Nice head and expression, stands on a straight front leading into a good rib and loin. Blue and tan presented in better coat than 2nd and moved the best in this class.
2nd - Foxy Fell At Roseghyll (Mrs A Johnson)
Very workman like 5-year-old grizzle who was carrying a little bit of condition today. Coat just going over but still had texture. She moved soundly and is a very honest type.

1st - Haystoun Cosmic Dancer At Paleside (Mr D & Mrs D Mitchell)
This bitch really took my eye when entering the ring and she didn’t disappoint. She is such a lovely size and very easy to span. Her blue and tan coat has depth and texture. Varminty expression, strength of jaw, large teeth and small ears give to a typical head. She is very balanced with nothing overdone, straight font, neat feet and lovely rib and loin. Moved effortlessly around the ring, pleased to award her reserve best bitch.

1st - Picer Mirabel Ostler (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
This 2-year-old blue and tan owned the ring from the moment she walked in and went on to become my Best In Show. My notes really only say one thing – She moves – which comes from being made right. Large teeth in a correct scissor bite housed in a strong jaw. Dark eye and small ears all give to an appealing head and varminty expression. She is balanced throughout, standing straight in the front with good rear angles that she really powers from on the move. Presented in fantastic coat of texture depth and pelt.
2nd - Thornheswin Northern Lass (Mr J C Dixon)
Another bitch of quality who was unlucky to meet 1 today. Presented in hard condition well-muscled and covered the ground well. Grizzle coat of depth and harsh. She is easy to span with nice rib into loin ratio. Typical head, slightly lighter in eye but doesn’t detract from her keen expression.

This is always one of my favourite classes and all are credit to their owners. I absolutely loved my top two.
1st - Mysulan Going Solo JW (Mrs S J Baxter)
9 and 1/2-year-old blue and tan male who is exactly that all male. Very appealing in head with typical expression. Holds a balanced profile on the move which he does with economy in a true tracking motion. He is spannable with straight front and good shoulder into rib. Best Veteran In Show
2nd - CH Cedarhill Wish Upon a Star JW (Mrs C Dean)
This 12-year-old bitch truly defies her age. Although a little grey she still possesses the attributes that gave her the title of Champion. Shown in fabulous coat she has a beautiful head and still knows how to own the ring on the move.
3rd - Caznray Just A Mystery From Thornheswin (Mr J C Dixon)
Res - Kadaredhills Henley Star (Mrs J Potts)
VHC - Keebank Withy Song VW (Mrs L Rostron)

1st – Great Clifton Chime and Sticklepike Angel on High
Nice pair of grizzles that were well matched in shape, size and heads. Moved well together.
2nd – Blue Duke of Cumbria at Roseghyll and Crosby Dark Duchess at Roseghyll
Two very typey exhibits that complemented each other. Move Ok together but not quite striding outs as 1st place.
