Thank you to the committee of the Richmond show for granting my first appointment to award CC’s, I was well looked after on the day and had great support from my stewards which was very much appreciated. It was a real privilege to judge some wonderful examples of the breed and the future looks bright as there were so many wonderful puppies and juniors. I really appreciated all my entries and rewarded those in the best condition on the day, I also acknowledge that many had good breed type and quality even amongst those not in the challenge and some that were not placed in the stronger classes.

1st - Awbrooksky Never Back Down (Mr R & Miss L Goddard)
A great start to my day to see this young dog shown in super jacket with thick pelt beneath and ticking so many boxes in terms of his body lines and reach of neck plus well placed carrot tail. No exaggerations and moved true both ways, so pleased to award him best puppy later and watch him achieve a well-deserved 4th place in the group.
2nd - Ragatam Eros (Mr M F Gooding & Mrs J Yates)
Good youngster, more mature in some departments than my winner and another to watch out for in the future. He also was shown in super condition with lovely top line, slightly up on the leg compared to my winner but don’t think this will be any concern as he matures.
3rd - Arunmere Midnight Cowboy (Mrs A J Parsons)

1st - Grand Boy (Mrs J Cox)
Liked the head, expression and neat ear of this young man, he was short coupled and perhaps a wee bit round in rib but a strong loin and well set on tail made for a pleasing prospect who will likely mature into a very nice dog.
2nd - Otterholme Ulysses (Ms T Jones)
Another nice prospect for the future slightly up on leg and preferred the tail placement of my winner. He moved well in front and time should strengthen his rear action.

1st - Otterbobs Brimmer (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
A very promising future lays ahead for this young man who has outstanding jacket and pelt over his well laid back rib, well-constructed shoulder and angulated hind quarters. His top line was pleasing as was his depth of rib easily spanned, giving him a great outline. His head was masculine but not exaggerated with super dentition and neat well placed ears. Liked his reach of neck, overall construction and condition which allowed him to move with purpose and drive. I think this kennel has a full locker at the moment and this boy will likely follow in his fathers footsteps.
2nd - Chesterton Merlot (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney)
Liked this well turned out youngster too, slightly narrower through than my winner he also has a good head and many good features for the breed he did push hard for top spot. So after writing such nice things about the winner I hope it is clear that I think this dog is also a promising prospect for the future.
3rd - Grand Boy (Mrs J Cox)

1st - Kevrah Orion Seeking Orangebox (Mr M & Mrs T Anscombe)
This dog has so many good features for the breed including a masculine head with flat skull, which is more advanced than the dogs shown in previous classes and more masculine than many that followed. He has a deep harsh jacket of a dark rich grizzle colour with super thick pelt beneath. His well angulated rear quarters allowed him to move true coming and going with good rear drive. He didn’t put a foot wrong and looking forward to following him as he advances through the classes.
2nd - Goldenmill Great Gable (Mr R & Mrs L Cox)
Nice head slightly let down by ear placement away from his check, shorter coupled than my winner and his coat was just past its best today.

1st - Baillieswells Kilchoman (Mrs A Morgan)
A nice sized dog who was pleased to be out of lockdown, so much so, it was difficult to see his true qualities on the move. He is of good breed type with dark nose and eye that complement an overall pleasing head. His reach of neck flowed down to well-placed shoulders and a good top line with well set on tail. I hope he can settle in the future to better advance his show prospects.
2nd - Goldenmill Great Gable (Mr R & Mrs L Cox)
See previous class.

1st - Fisherbloom Dont Stop Me Now At Louajak (Miss C Gwilliam)
He used his long reach and drive to win this class holding his top line well on the move. Liked his length of rib but maybe carrying a slight too much condition plus his coat was going over so difficult to consider for higher awards. Overall his head and expression were pleasing and lots to like about this two year old grizzle boy.
2nd - Lessien Buckle N Boots (Miss S Pateman)
Lovely masculine head with neat well placed v shaped ears, coat also going over and shorter coupled than my winner who out moved this nice dog today.
3rd - Howthwaite Gentil Duke At Tilmoray (Mrs M Small)
Res - Baillieswells Ncn'ean (Miss T J Peacock)

1st - Hartswelin Veritas With Oatberry (Mrs K Tuffin)
Won this class because of his moderately broad skull and short strong muzzle, also liked his well laid back rib and pleasing profile finished off by a good carrot like tail that was well placed
2nd - Borderby's Return To Sender For Clipstone (Miss E & Mrs J Jackson)
Outstanding tight double jacket on this very nice dog who pushed hard for the top spot and made my decision very tough. He was very game and has many good attributes of a working terrier.
3rd - Onthill Nighthawk (AV)1 (Mr V J & Mrs M Pearce)
Res - Howthwaite Gentil Duke At Tilmoray (Mrs M Small)
VHC - Benem Enter Sandman (Mrs G Skipper)

Although only four in this class, the quality was outstanding and it was a real pleasure to go over these top quality dogs that all have so much to offer the breed.
1st - Otterbobs Tolson (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
A real showman who had character and condition that took him on to be my CC winner today. His head and expression are great examples of the breed standard; like that of an otter, with short muzzle and great dentition. He is easily spanned with a grizzle double coat which is harsh, tightly dense and beneath is a good thick pelt. He has a deep well laid back rib and strong closely coupled loin, rear quarters were well angulated and overall it was hard to take your eyes off this super example of the breed. He maintained his top line and carried his tail well standing and when moving with drive and purpose.
2nd - Thistlestone Glenfiddich (Mr S Whisker & Miss J May)
This equally impressive male pushed the winner all the way and was pleased to award him a Reserve CC as he is worthy of gaining champion status. His head is moderately broad with little stop with good fill under the eye. His coat and condition matched that of the winner and his slightly longer and narrow lines will be preferred by some when these two compete. He also moved very true with drive and purpose.
3rd - Mysulan Going Solo JW (Mrs S J Baxter)
Res - Glen Mara Oh Viedo At Kersfell JW (Mrs M Sneddon)

1st - Chatmoss Bullet Tooth Tony JW (Miss J Hughes)
I have judged this dog before and have always felt he is a good example of the breed as he is not exaggerated in any way and today he was in good jacket and moved well. His moderate broad skull and strong muzzle are to standard as is his well laid rib and strong loin. He lacked activity in the challenge when compared to the Limit class dogs.
2nd - CH Stowthorney Wicker Man JW (Mr R Brewster & Ms J Green)
When I awarded him best puppy dog in 2018 I expected him to go on to great things and he has not disappointed, although due to the pandemic it took longer than expected at the time. He was short on coat today so I felt it wrong to award him the class or more but in many ways he matched my winner making it a tough decision. It was great to see that his head has strengthened as has his top line, loin and overall soundness making him a fine and well deserved champion
3rd - CH Dassett Last Waltz JW (Mrs S Spafford)
Res - Howthwaite in Voice (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)

After awarding the dog CC it was a really nice to see so many great minor puppies in the ring and I really was short on awards as some left without a placing, despite them being excellent representatives of the breed.
1st - Tarkaswell Highland Fling (Mrs C E Sansom)
This youngster ticks all the boxes and already has a head that fits the breed standard so well, being with black pigmentation short muzzle and neat ears close to the cheek. Her coat was harsh and deep, with a thick loose pelt too. Her narrow and fairly long body lines were finished off with a short carrot like tail, I was pleased to also see her move so well and with confidence and poise. She went on to be my best puppy bitch and challenged closely with an equally outstanding minor puppy dog.
2nd - Rockslade Ravishing (Mrs D E Harris)
Another shown in great coat and condition moving out well coming and going. Skull will probably broaden and flatten as she matures in to what I expect to be a very nice bitch. Her sister is also promising but was just pipped into third place today.
3rd - Rockslade Russian Roulette (Miss G Lowe & Mr T Miles)
Res - Oh Vienna Chesterton (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney)
VHC - Ragatam Elegant (Mrs D Symons)

1st - Picer Bess Pool (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Coat was just coming in today with just enough to award her the class in recognition of her breed quality and type. Pleasing head with dark nose and eye, her bodylines and narrowness plus good shoulder and rear angulation allowed her to move well in front and behind.
2nd - Power Lady (Mrs J Cox)
Shown in good coat with a nice thick pelt and head equal to that of the winner. Carrying a little too much condition, it would be to her advantage to address this and I would like to see her on another day.
3rd - Otterholme Underground (Ms T Jones)
Res - Thistlemead First Dance (Mrs P M Heeley)
Entries: 7 Absentees: 0
Another class of good youngsters which I noted on the day, another set of close decisions.
1st - Barkanellie Sirencraft (Mrs J & Mr I Taylor)
Liked her feminine head and expression she was shown in great coat and condition today. Body lines were pleasing and she maintained top line on the move to head the pack.
2nd - Dottie Pip by Dassett (Mrs S Spafford)
Another super feminine head and I also liked her reach of neck and shoulder, coat was just coming in, I appreciated her thick pelt.
3rd - Lessien Little Blyuebird (Miss S J Pateman)
Res - Etterbern Mrs Bucket (Mr G Ingram)
VHC - Mysulan Easy Going With Fryerfold (Mrs S J Stephenson)

1st - Picer Isabel Derby (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Shown in full deepest dark grizzle coat, her lovely jacket covered a well laid rib and strong loin. Otter like feminine head and well placed thick carrot tail, her top line may have been better appreciated with less coat but rear angulation allowed her to extend well behind to take the class.
2nd - Howthwaite's Resolution (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)
Longer bodyline with equally pleasing head and I was able to see her top line that was held throughout and on the move. Much to appreciate and I think she will go on to do very good things.
3rd - Tarkaswell High Fidelity (Mrs C E Samsom)
Res - Orangebox A New Hope At Itsaso (Miss L Tanton-Joy)
VHC - Bostontime Lucky (Mrs J & Mr O Cox)

1st - Thistlestone Pumkin Pie (Mr S Whisker & Miss J May)
Took a little while to settle but when she relaxed her top line was excellent and she moved well both ways. Her harsh double coat and overall condition helped her to top position here.
2nd - Southash Lavender Blue At Oatberry (Mrs K Tuffin)
Lots of good points with this two year old bitch who is slightly deeper but equal in many ways to my winner. I liked her top line and carrot tail which is well set on, also liked her rear drive.
Others in this class were a little heavy so please feel for rib and look for waistlines.
3rd - Thistlemead First Dance (Mrs P M Heeley)
Res - Rhozzum Thisbe (Mrs F Wingrave)
VHC - Bostontime All Eyes On Me (Mr O Cox)

1st - Barkanellie Sirencraft (Mrs J & Mr I Taylor)
Please see Junior class for critique but her coat and condition stood out in this class.
2nd - Twigglestone Serendipite (Mrs L I Aldous)
Much to like about this well constructed bitch who was short of coat today, otherwise she could have taken top spot. Her strong muzzle and pleasing head with a strong loin all add up to make her a good example of the breed.
3rd - Otterwood Leda Of Lyndham (Mrs J D Elliott)
Res - Nasabe Brora Of Baillieswells (Mrs P Skipper)
VHC - Bostontime All Eyes On Me (Mr O Cox)

1st - Tarkaswell Sea The Stars (Mrs C E Sansom)
Her condition and harsh jacket helped her win this hard contested class, slightly let down by ear placement, her head is complemented by a strong muzzle with good dentition. She is deep in body which is spannable and has good rib with moderate length, well placed tail and good rear angulation that helped her push through on the move.
2nd - Twigglestone Somethin Else For Lessien (Miss S J Pateman)
Her coat was going over but she did have a nice flat skull and otter like head, shorter in rib than the winner she has a nice shoulder and good angulation so also moved out well both ways
3rd - Barkanellie Flashheart (Mr I & Mrs J Taylor)
Res - Reedbeck Kittyhawk Of Arunmere (Miss J Hughes)
VHC - Moor Farm Bellwether At Rubyfin (Mrs S J Channer)
Entries: 4 Absentees: 2
1st - Mysulan Go Easy (Mrs S J Baxter)
Compact blue and tan bitch with appealing head and short muzzle, good reach of neck and jacket which was harsh and deep, she moved well and was a clear winner of this class.
2nd - Litelheych Secret Potion (Mrs H J Cobby)
The bodylines, soft expression and tail were the highlights here and she moved well behind but couldn’t match the breed quality of my winner.
Entries: 6 Absentees: 0
What a great class and a real privilege to have six top quality bitches and even the one that left without a card had quality but sadly not enough coat today.
1st - Picer Martha Logen (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
She caught my eye early in this class as she was in the best of coats and exceled in breed type in every department. Her moderately broad skull and strong short muzzle with dark eye and small V shaped ears close to the cheek gave her a otter like feminine head. Loved her straight forelegs, bone and shoulder placement. The length of rib and strength of loin were excellent, not over angulated she didn’t put a foot wrong on the move.
I was pleased to award her the CC and Best of Breed that was backed by a fantastic Group 4 placing.
2nd - CH Dandyhow Pandora (Mrs K Irving)
Another top top quality bitch who was presented in the best of jackets ticking the breed checklist across the board from her dark nose to the tip of her thick carrot tail. She is a super champion and I was pleased to award her the Reserve CC today.
3rd - Otterbobs Duchess (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
Res - Howthwaite Gay Dusky (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)
VHC - Byrewick Valentine (Mr R Brewster & Ms J Green)
