Thank you to the Committee for inviting me to judge at this level for the first time, and also to my very efficient ring steward who kept things running smoothly. I had a lovely day and felt it was a great honour and responsibility. I really appreciated each and every entry, and had some lovely exhibits to go over, the depth of quality in some classes meaning that some nice dogs went cardless. Coats were understandably at different stages, and although this has no bearing on the construction of the dog, a good coat does complete the picture of what is essentially a working terrier.

1st - Beaconpike Poseidon (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)
A confident 6 month old grizzle and tan who was enjoying his day out and moving very accurately for one so young. He is built on narrow lines, with a lovely straight front, well laid back shoulders, and ribbed well back. He has a very good head with short, strong muzzle and big, white teeth. Very easy to span.

1st - Hartswelin Veritas With Oatberry (Mrs K Tuffin)
This eye catching grizzle and tan has a super otter head and is built on lovely narrow lines. He has a fabulous front, straight and with enough bone, and well placed, well laid back shoulders. Decent length of upper arm gives him good reach in front when moving, and sturdy hindquarters provide plenty of drive from behind. He is a lovely size and I considered him hard in the challenge but just felt he needs a little more time.
2nd - Prince Rainbow Blue (Miss R Bevan)
Grizzle and tan dog who has a good topline and tailset, is ribbed well back, and has good angulation front and rear. Moves accurately and well, but I felt didn’t quite have the refined head of the first. Shown in the best of coats with a thick, pliable pelt.

1st - Holdenelms Worth The Wait Via Ycart (Mr K K Fraser & Mrs T J Butler)
A truly workmanlike grizzle and tan, unexaggerated, everything in moderation. I loved his otter head with dark eye and varmity expression, powerful jaw and scissor bite full of big teeth. His strong neck flows into narrow shoulders, and his straight, narrow front has just the right amount of bone. He stands on neat, well padded feet, is narrow in body and ribbed well back, and is easy to span. His loin is strong and he is muscular with well angulated, sturdy hindquarters. He has a wonderfully thick, pliable pelt, close undercoat and harsh, deep top coat. He moved steadily and economically around the ring, and could surely keep going all day. RCC.
