It is always a pleasure to judge Border Terriers and this was no exception. Many thanks for a decent entry which, however, was marred by quite a number of absentees. There has always been diversity in the breed, but I felt this was even more obvious this time than on previous occasions when I have judged Borders in the UK. Many dogs were well up to size making them impossible to span. I also felt that heads varied more than I would have liked with plenty of large ears and long weak muzzles, often also falling away under the eyes. Temperaments, as one would expect, were excellent and so were coats and pelts on the whole. Grateful thanks for the sporting manner in which my placings were accepted, and also to my stewards.

Quality class but great variation in size
1st - Hartswelin Veritas With Oatberry (Mrs K Tuffin)
I liked this young dog very much and he is very correct to go over with excellent head, eyes and ears, good front and rear, typical body, coat and tail, showed well, the smallest in the class but in no ways a small Border Terrier!
2nd - Cedarhill Melt In The Mouth (Mrs C Dean)
masculine puppy, stronger in build than the winner and he must not thicken in body, good head, excellent tail, coat and movement, rather large in ears
3rd - Brookbeech Wild Boy (Mr P Shephard)

Difficult class with considerable variation
1st - Fisherbloom All Eyez On Me (Mrs G Maskell)
lovely headed dog, very good front, legs and feet, sound quarters, a little heavy in body and he could have done with more coat, excellent pelt, moved and showed with style
2nd - Thistlestone Glenfiddich (Mr S Whisker & Miss J May)
I liked the type on this dog and he has many good points: typical body and outline , very good hard dense coat, sound legs, excellent tail, ears set too high not helping head and expression and I felt he could have showed with more enthusiasm

2nd - Brackenfell Rock The Boat For Vandamere JW (Mr S Pollit)
a little different in type but with lots to like, very good head with correct eye and expression, excellent lay-back of shoulders, coat rather short but of correct texture, tail rather thin and he would have benefitted from less streamlined trimming, good mover

Very good class and a pleasure to judge
1st - CH Glebeheath Just a Gigolo (Mrs J Guvercin)
this dog caught my eye at once upon entering the ring and I was not disappointed when going over him on the table. His overall proportions are textbook and he was presented in gleaming condition sporting a very hard dense double coat, wonderful tail carried and set perfectly, Perfect front and shoulders– a rarity in most breeds! -, good legs and feet, narrow ribcage, equally good rear resulting in dead true movement coming and going. Masculine head, not the neatest of ears, showed faultlessly and won the dog CC and BOB. Delighted to see him win the Terrier Group later in the day under Lesley Crawley.
2nd - Clipstone Starshine (Miss E & Mrs J Jackson)
another true Border Terrier who appealed greatly for overall type and balance, pleasing masculine head, good eyes and ears, correct amount of bone, very good body which is easily spanned, hard coat in pristine condition, typical racy hindquarters, good shower, not quite as positive coming and going as the eventual winner but nonetheless a very good dog whom I was pleased to award the res CC.

true Border Terrier with lovely head, wonderful coat and pelt, perfect tail, the very best of legs and feet, typical body, easily spanned, sound on the move and could not be denied the bitch CC. Congratulations!
2nd - Gameway French Fancy Avec Orangebox (Mr M & Mrs T Anscombe)
the more I looked at this bitch the more I liked her. She excels in front and shoulders and has a lovely head, very good easily spanned body, good coat, pelt and topline, sound quarters, perhaps a little overangulated behind for perfection but a very good bitch indeed who pressed hard here and landed the bitch res CC

Another very good class but with considerable variation in type and size
1st - CH Glebeheath Fingers On Lips (Mrs J Guvercin)
yet another excellent Border Terrier from this exhibitor whose dogs impressed me very much, feminine head, good front and body, wonderful coat and pelt, good tail, effortless mover, would have liked a little more angulation behind but this did not detract from her overall quality, expertly presented. A very serious contender in the bitch challenge
2nd - CH Benattivo Fire Flower JW (Mrs S J & Mr C P Girling)
I also liked this bitch a lot and it was not an easy decision between these two good bitches, lovely head, very good front and body, could have done with more length of coat and a better tail-set but overall a very high quality Border Terrier who moved and showed really well
