I would firstly like to thank the Northern Border Terrier Club for inviting me to judge their show and for their lovely hospitality – lunch was very tasty. Thank you also to the committee for their lovely gift. My two stewards, Graham Richardson and Geoff Sugars, kept things moving along nicely – well done. This was my first breed club show and I was absolutely delighted with the excellent entry – thank you to everyone for giving me the opportunity of going over your dogs. As expected coats were at various stages but on the whole were good; only a couple of exhibits on the day had no coat at all. All dogs were entire and there were no kinked tails. There were one or two missing or broken teeth, especially in the veteran class and one or two untidy mouths. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was delighted with my main winners – I had some really good quality dogs to judge.

1st - Northborders Marlon Brando (Miss J North)
7 month old with masculine head, strong jaw and excellent dentition. Up on the leg but narrow throughout and spannable. He kept a level top line on the move, although he does need to tighten up in the front. Good coat and pelt.
2nd - Otterbobs Marquis (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
Smaller than my winner and not as mature. Again, good coat and pelt. Preferred stronger head and ear carriage of 1. Moved OK.

1st - Ridgebow Two Hoots (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
10½ month old grizzle with masculine head, flat scull and strong muzzle and large teeth. Lovely deep, harsh jacket and thick pelt. He is spannable with a good length of rib and is well muscled. He strode with confidence and maturity around the ring on neat feet. Sound in front movement, a little wide in the rear. Pleased to award him BPD and BPIS.
2nd - Brackenfell Rock The Boat For Vandamere (Mr S Pollit)
Broad head and strong muzzle. Good coat and pelt. Moved OK but a little close behind. His top line could be better and his tail set is slightly low.

1st - Howthwaite in Voice (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)
One I have judged before as a puppy. He is maturing well and has tightened up in his front movement – today he moved soundly around the ring. He is a little plainer in the head than some, but he has a strong jaw with lovely big teeth. He has good shoulder placement and spans well. Ribbed well back with strong loin and well-muscled.
2nd - Chorbeck Space Cowboy JW (Mrs H Haughton)
Stronger and slightly heavier built than 1 but still spannable. He has a moderately broad head with neat ears. Nice length of body. Moved soundly. Preferred overall balance of my class winner.
3rd - Karison Kustard (Miss K Johnson)
Res - Brumberhill Breitling (Mr T & Mrs K Kelly)

1st - Cedarhill Ghost Writer JW (Mrs M Fleming)
I have watched this dog from the ringside for a while now and was not disappointed today when I went over him. Just over 2 years old, he has a lovely head, strong muzzle and good bite. He has a keen expression with neat ear set. Straight front, and well angulated front and rear. He spans well with a good length of body and strong loin. Very sound and balanced on the move, he holds a super top line with a lovely carrot like tail well set on. Presented in a lovely new top coat with a good loose pelt. Not over done in any way, he stood out today and I was very pleased to award him BD and BIS.

1st - Otterbobs Duchess (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
Grizzle 8½ month old with pleasing head and good bite. Narrow throughout she spanned easily. Good top line and tail set. She moved around the ring with confidence but does need to tighten up a little in the front. She won this class on maturity over 2 and I would have liked a bit more of her.
2nd - Beaconpike River Sky (Mr S & Mrs K Golding)
Just short of 8 months old, she has a sweet feminine head and good dentition. Narrow with a good length of body she spans easily. Good coat and pelt. She was a little unsettled on the table and not as confident on the move in this class as my winner. However, she did settle and moved well in maiden bitch, which won her that class.

Smaller than 1, this 11 month old B/T had a feminine head that is still to mature. Shorter in body than 1, she spanned well and moved OK.

Two lovely B/T bitches headed this class both well handled by their owners and both shown in fit condition – it was a close decision.
1st - Howthwaite Gold Dust (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)
Strong but feminine head with excellent dentition. Narrow throughout she spans well. She has a straight narrow front and is well angulated front and rear. She has an excellent top line, which she holds on the move. Well-muscled hindquarters. Lovely jacket and pelt. Moved freely and with drive. I liked her a lot and was pleased to award her BB and RBIS.
2nd - Ridgebow Pendle Witch (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
another lovely B/T just short of 2 years old which I judged as a puppy. Slightly more bone than 1, but she spans well. Feminine head with good ear set. Standing on neat feet she moved well fore and aft, keeping a good top line extending into a lovely carrot tail well set on. Well presented coat and good pelt. RBB
