I had the most enjoyable experience from the first to last minute of my judging day, the Northern hospitality from all was exceptional and I thank the Committee for giving me such a great opportunity. The quality and depth in some classes was a real treat for me to discover on judging ‘up north’ for the first time. Thanks to my stewards who helped keep everything managed practically perfect throughout the day. I enjoyed the lunch and my gift is displayed in pride of place on the mantle. Thank you all for trusting me to take on such a wonderful show.
A couple of untidy mouths, some unclean teeth but bites generally good. Found a dog and a bitch with kinks and there were a few thin pelts. Overall however I found good quality in the majority, good heads and expressions are essential but I especially like to see a dog moving forwards with drive, not pulling but setting off to get somewhere. I believe a working terrier needs good tight feet and thick pads to be able to meet the standard, most feet were good although I observed some long claws which do not help.

This 8 month old grizzle boy is well constructed for his age with masculine head, good reach of neck, slightly high rump which along with his front movement will improve with age.

A strong class with 3 nice dogs, all of which have strong characteristics that bode well for them and the breed.
1st - Achnagairn Baily Sweet (Mrs M Winder)
Dark grizzle and tan jacket on this well presented and shown youngster, I liked his dark eye and strong muzzle. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulder, narrow bodied with good rear angulation, he moved out well coming and going.
2nd - Tojamatt Rhythm N'blues at Raedwulf (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
Another turned out in top coat and condition, with lots of good qualities, just preferred reach of neck and flowing movement of my class winner.
3rd - Karison Kustard (Miss K Johnson)
Liked the head and expression of this dog.

Well proportioned 14 month grizzle male who once settled moved out well, coat just coming in.

1st - Mysulan Going Solo JW (Mrs S J Baxter)
This Blue and Tan male has the most super harsh coat and thick pelt, strong head with well placed ears. Moved with purpose and kept his good topline throughout to take the class.
2nd - Grettacs Music Master (Mrs J Littlefair)
In full coat just going over, still lots to like about this dog. His head and expression are particularly noteworthy, preferred the rib of class winner.
3rd - Otterpaws Muninn (Mr & Mrs G Birrel)
Res - Tyneaster Undercover Agent For Vandamere JW (Mr S Pollit)
VHC - Westbound Dan (Mr D Hill)

1st - Ridgebow Tracker (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
Slightly smaller type shown in full coat, under which he boasts a thick pelt. Short strong muzzle with keen dark eye and neat ears give him a pleasing otter like head. He moved with drive to win the class but for some reason didn’t match this in the challenge?
2nd - Glenbucket Highland Lad (Mrs N Anderson)
Turned out in lovely coat and condition he pushed hard in this class, just pipped on front movement.
3rd - Keebank Charlie's Diamond (Mrs L Keeffe)
Res - Lairehope Highland Chief Of Tweedburn (Mrs C Archibald)
VHC - Raleniro Second Time Around ShCM (Mr M J & Mrs D A Lorraine & Miss P Thomas)

1st - CH Karison Kosta (Miss K Johnson)
Many outstanding features on this grizzle dog including his masculine head, good reach of neck and strong loin a fit and well boned dog who moved with drive and purpose. He has a good pelt but his coat was just coming through so was restricted to reserve best dog today.
2nd - Glenbucket Whisky Mac (Mrs A Howard)
Outstanding body lines on another good specimen shown in full coat. Strong dentition and neat well placed ears are also features I noted on the day.
3rd - Ravenside Rumours About Caldewgate (Mr A E Burke)

1st - Picer Beth Chatto (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Really rate this super young lady with so much type and quality, she was unlucky to meet a more mature puppy of equal virtue today. Beautiful head and expression with bodylines to match, harsh double jacket and turned out to perfection. Her rear angulation is spot on allowing her to drive out well and take this class, looking forwards to seeing her develop.
2nd - Nottorg Nostalgia (Mrs A Taylor)
Also rate this youngster who matched winner in many departments, just could not compete with head of winner but with time she may develop here too.
3rd - Carrickfarm Macey (Mrs M Armstrong)
Res - Keebank Snow Queen (Mrs L Keeffe)
VHC - Keebank Ice Maiden (Mrs S Morgan)

1st - Stineval Kordia (Mr & Mrs A G Horner)
Having thought so highly about the minor puppy, I was pleasantly surprised that another high quality puppy entered the ring. Loved her keen expression and dark eye, her bodyline and super well laid back rib impressed. Her tight cat like feet were the best of the day and she moved with confidence and drive at every stage. Was pleased to credit her overall quality with reserve best bitch as well as best puppy, which was hard won given the quality of the other class winners.
2nd - Kelcraig Demora (Mr R M & Mrs H Rowland)
Some good qualities in this puppy too, super rear angulation and coat with super tail set. Could not match the winner for expression.`

The girls matched the dogs in another great class of youngsters which gave me a real challenge to ‘split hairs’ to place the top 3.
1st - Karison Krumble (Miss K Johnson)
Her fitness and condition was such that she started from a strong position from the moment she entered the ring. Strong but feminine head with appealing expression. Good reach of neck and nice topline just falling away at the rump. To me her hindquarters are the definition of racey, not at all weak, well boned and muscled which would in my opinion allow her to be active all day.
2nd - Ridgebow Pendle Witch (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
Blue and Tan bitch with a strong head and muzzle, pleasure to find good rib under super harsh double jacket, narrow through and most carrot like tail well placed, pushed winner very hard.
3rd - Merumhor Blue Jasmine (Mr C & Mrs J Martin)
Res - Lynsett Miss Marple (Mr J R & Mrs V Mann)
VHC - Kentixen Mystery (Mr C Tait)

Had a real battle to place top two in a nice post graduate class which demonstrated the depth of quality present at the show.
1st - Bordurrock Tarot Woman (Mr D & Mrs E Gillies)
The tightest of thick harsh coat and good pelt on this feminine bitch who was not exaggerated in any department. Well placed neat ears held close to her head, liked her shoulder and narrow front moved well coming and going to win the class on front movement.
2nd - Keebank Withy Song (Mrs L Rostron)
Another with harsh double jacket and good thick pelt, soft feminine expression, good rib and overall well proportioned with super well set on tail.
3rd - Raleniro New Rose (Mr M J & Mrs D A Lorraine)
Res - Stineval Malizia (Mr A & Mrs C Horner)
VHC - Dexlin Salix (Mr B & Mrs L P Inness)

1st - Ridgebow Rusty Rivet (Mr N & Mrs A Duxbury)
A real pleasure to go over and discover a well laid back rib under her full but harsh double jacket, slightly longer in body than some she maintained her topline when on the move. Dark nose and eyes completed what was for me a super otter like head which was the best of the day. Tight cat like feet and thick pads are necessary attributes for a day’s activity, whatever the ‘terrier terrain’ and she excelled here too. This combined with her fitness and condition allowed her to move with drive, never putting a foot wrong, it gave me great pleasure to award her Best in Show.
2nd - Picer Flora Mcivor JW (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
In super condition this quality bitch also strode out well, personal preference over head and expression were deciding factors in this super class.
3rd - Sulan Strictly Blues Dancin' (Mrs S J Baxter)
Res - Foxcraig Touch Of Magic For Dexlin (Mr B & Mrs L P Inness)
VHC - Picer Angelica to Nottorg ShCM (Mr P & Mrs A Taylor)

A mixed class of mature but still strong and active ‘gentle folk’ which made for a great class.
1st - CH Lairehope Lord of the Glen At Tweedburn (Mrs C Archibald)
Was a real pleasure to go over this strong grizzle 8 year old dog in super coat and condition. His masculine head and strong muzzle complemented by neat V shaped ears and dark eye. Good shoulder placement, strongest of loins and super set on tail, his rear angulation and fitness allowed him to stride out, he occasionally lost his outline on the move, but this didn’t detract from his overall outstanding quality for me. Was pleased to award him best Dog, best Veteran and Reserve BIS as well as Best Opposite Sex.
2nd - Int/Am/Can CH Sulan Fancy That (Mrs S J Baxter)
Would hardly believe this bitch is 10 years old and she remains a real quality lady, with super head and expression, good topline with well set on tail, preferred the front movement of my winner today buts she pushed him hard in every department.
3rd - Grettacs the Wizard ShCM (Mr B & Mrs L P Inness)
I called this dog back into the dog challenge having placed the class winner as top dog, I genuinely like this chap who was slightly unlucky to be in such good company today.
Res - Minx's Diamond (Mrs M Anderson)
