I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge at this Show. It was my first visit to Kelso and I was most impressed with the hospitality and organisation there. My two excellent stewards, Gordon and Donald, kept me on the straight and narrow and contributed to a lovely atmosphere in and around the ring.
I did not make my usual visit to the SBTC championship show the weekend before as I wanted to see all the dogs afresh, and I am glad I did as many of the exhibits were new to me. In general, mouths were good, with dentition only slightly awry in one instance. I found no kinked tails and all dogs were entire.
It was a very hot and sunny day and this affected some dogs, who perhaps lacked their normal animation and were moving lethargically. As usual, there was a wide variation in coats, with some totally lacking top coat, and this naturally had an effect on the placings.
I would like to thank the exhibitors for the large entry and for the sporting way in which my decisions were taken throughout my judging stint.

1st - Tojamatt Rhythm N'blues at Raedwulf (Mr M & Mrs V Atkinson)
good for size puppy of nine months. Pleasing head, well constructed throughout, though tail slightly on the long side (something that is regrettably all too common these days). Shown in good coat and was settled and sound on the move.
2nd - Baillieswells Glengyle At Glebeheath (Mrs J Guvercin)
was of similar size to the class winner. Was balanced on the table and had a lovely head. Good straight front, but movement let this youngster down today
3rd - Karison Kroupier (Miss K Johnson)
Res - Tarkaswell Smart Move To Otterwood (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee)

Movement was not the strong point of any of these juniors today, perhaps it was the heat.
1st - Karison Kustard (Miss K Johnson)
in good coat and possessed a lovely head . Looked so balanced on the table and it was a real disappointment when it came to moving. Perhaps not happy today, as tail not carried well either.
2nd - Normbar Hussar (Mrs N Ellis)
liked his head so much and looked good on the table, but could not forgive his rather crabby movement today.
3rd - Lynsett Lewis (Mr P Armstrong)
Entries: 6 Absentees: 0

stood out in this class. Good size. Lovely head and eye, good bite. Straight front, but moved a little wide behind today.

1st - Tyneaster Undercover Agent For Vandamere JW (Mr S Pollit)
was the stand-out winner of this class. Well constructed throughout, good straight front and moved out well. Lovely head and skull. In good coat. Tail just slightly on the long side (Where, oh where, have those carroty tails gone to?).
2nd - Tyneaster Dark Agent (Mrs S F Gill)
litter brother of class winner, b/t, but did not move as well. Had a lovely head and coat was OK. Could change places on another day

1st - Tyneaster Special Agent at Raedwulf (Mrs V Atkinson)
yet another of the same litter as 1 and 2 in GD, moved very well today, not surprisingly as he has excellent hindquarters, with a good bend of stifle, and a nice straight front. Pleasing head, good dark eyes. In good coat. My notes say ‘liked him a lot’.
2nd - Otterpaws Muninn (Mr & Mrs G Birrel)
another one with a good head. Thinner skinned than1 and did not move quite as true.

1st - CH Karison Kosta (Miss K Johnson)
added another CC to his collection today. Outstanding dog who has matured very well. Has a lovely otter head, with well shaped skull. Well balanced both on the table and on the move. Good straight front and excellent hindquarters. One of the best movers today. My notes say ‘looked great’ and that just about sums it up!
2nd - Wadesleia Mr Herriot (Mrs H A & Mr A Fletcher)
got his place on movement over 3 today. In many ways, very similar to the class winner, good boning, lovely head, with a good ear set. Unlucky to come up against the Limit winner for the RCC.

just 7 months old but a wonderfully finished puppy. An excellent head, in good proportion to the rest of her body. Nice tail, good straight front. Moved soundly. I shall follow her progress with interest.

was another puppy with much to like. Good conformation throughout. Really good head, with well set ears. Moved soundly.

best puppy, b/t, was a little reluctant on the move but covered the ground well once she got moving. Lovely head, holds her ears well. Very close decision over 2.
2nd - Tea At Tufters (Mrs J Vaughan)
another nice puppy, slightly smaller than the winner. Well balanced on the move. My notes say ‘much to like’

1st - Ploughdown Paloma (Mr E & Dr M Armstrong)
was a clear winner of this class. Carried her topline well on the move and looked a picture. Perhaps a little too much face furnishing but this is easily rectified. Well balanced throughout.
2nd - Lynsett Miss Marple (Mr J R & Mrs V Mann)
another youngster who moved well. In good coat, had a nice overall balance. Good skull, with correct eyes. Well deserved her placing. 3

VHC - Earthwise Heaven Can Wait (Mr E Houston)

I found this a difficult class to judge.
1st - Catgallows Serendipity (Mrs V I Mason)
was, by far, the soundest mover in this class and this is what clinched her the class as she was a little thickset and low on the leg. Head was OK and she did have one of those rare carroty tails!
2nd - Kalebank Harvest Festival (Mrs S Portsmouth)
preferred the head of 1 and did not move as well.
3rd - Achnagairn Tutti Frutti (Mrs A Fraser)
Res - Otterpaws Firebird (Miss A M Dixon)
VHC - Fisherbloom Diaboli At Otterwood (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee)

1st - Picer Flora Mcivor JW (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
one I judged as a puppy and liked very much, as I still do. There is everything to like about this bitch and she was under serious consideration in the challenge. Her head has developed beautifully from a puppy. Good hindquarters and not too long in the leg, she was the best mover in this class.
2nd - Achnagairn Prim N'proper (Mrs A Fraser)
also had a good head and moved well. Tail a little on the long side.
3rd - Charlie's Copycat Via Otterbobs (Mr J R & Mrs H Gilpin)
Res - Fehmarn River Ranger (Mrs J Morton Shaw)
VHC - Howthwaite Gold Dust (Mr R J & Mrs E A Barrett)

1st - Tarkaswell Doctor's Orders JW (Mrs C E Sansom)
CC, BOB. I placed this one a couple of years ago in a strong class. She strode into the ring as if she owned it and really deserved the top honours today. I heard afterwards that this was her third ticket so congratulations are in order! In superb condition, she looked a picture of a Border Terrier. She covered the ground with ease. Her coat was in top condition. She has a lovely head, good set of ear and a lovely expression.
2nd - Irton Scotch Mist (Mr D & Mrs A Fryer)
RCC, slightly heavier throughout but in tremendous condition. A really lovely otter head and in a rich red coat. Good body conformation.
3rd - Brumberhill Miss Dior (Mrs N E Ellis)
Res - Achnagairn Red Card (Mrs A Fraser)
VHC - Ruby of Raughton Head At Loiriston (Dr & Mrs Wheatley)

topped a lovely class and pushed hard for the reserve ticket. Good head and expression. Moved very well, maintaining a lovely balance throughout. So much to like about her and I am sure she has a bright future.
2nd - Picer Aimee Vilbert JW (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
pushed hard but was not as sound on the move, being a little wide behind today. Another very typical head and in good condition
3rd - Beaconpike Night Sky At Brackenfell (Mr C Hall & Miss L Ellis)
