Thanks go to the committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to judge for the first time north of the border, Special thanks to my stewards on the day Messrs Goudie & Jackson for organising the ring so efficiently and ensuring everything ran smoothly during my judging. Good stewards are a welcome bonus for any judge. Despite the disappointing weather, thanks also to the exhibitors who attended and for giving me the second highest breed entry of the whole show.
With a large ring and mown grass, I was able to see the dogs move accurately. In general I thought the bitches were stronger than the dogs, but was pleased with all my class winners, and thought my CC winners a credit to the breed. Size was generally good with only a couple being difficult to span. As always coats were at various stages but I was surprised to find 2 very undershot bites in mid range classes.

8 month grizzle & tan. A different type being a size smaller and shorter coupled. Not the head of the winner but has a good bite and dark eyes. Narrow throughout he carries a super double coat and moves OK.

12 ½ month light grizzle. This dog really caught my eye as he moved round the ring. Super head with short muzzle and large teeth, good eye shape and well placed small dark ears. His correct size is all in proportion from his good neck length and well laid shoulder through to his well angulated rear quarters. He was in tip top condition and had a harsh double coat carried on the thickest of pelts. So confident when moving truly at both ends. Well handled. RESERVE DOG CC
2nd - Brumberhill Brigadoon (Mr S A Mcpherson)
Unlucky to meet the winner in such good form. Well constructed front end with a lovely flat skull, good bite and expression. Straight narrow front and flat ribs. Coat coming through but not the pelt of the winner. Good in outline, well set tail moving freely.

I have admired this dog from the ringside for some time, he was in tip top condition and all I was looking for. Light grizzle, he is an ideal size, easily spanned, balanced and looks excellent in profile. His head has all in correct proportions, strong muzzle, good skull, ears and bite. His body lines flow easily from neck into well angulated front and rear via a level topline and tail straight off the back. Has a narrow front and neatest of feet. Super tight harsh coat and moves well both ways covering the ground with ease. Pleased to award him the CC & BEST OF BREED

A size larger but spannable, this well known red champion is also well put together and balanced. His strong otter head has good width across the skull. Fine reach of neck leads to a body with good length of ribs that extend well back. Coat growing through, his muscular rear end is put to good use when covering the ground with purpose.

This red grizzle youngster has a feminine head with short muzzle and good eye placement. She has a pleasing outline with well laid shoulder, neat feet and well placed thick tail. Best coat of this class with lots of undercoat and harsh texture. Steady on the move.
2nd - Irton Enigma (Mr & Mrs D Fryer)
Litter sister to MPD winner. Well put together with good overall body shape, all parts in correct proportions. Good bite, with little stop and nice straight front. At her first show and in full coat, this puppy was rather nervous and difficult to handle making movement hard to assess.

A strong class where places would change on another day.
1st - Blewecourt Manhattan At Ploughdown (Mr & Mrs E Armstrong)
A very appealing g/tan Beautiful head being short and strong in muzzle, flat skull and well placed ears. Clean neck flows into straight front carried on small tight feet. She is excellent in profile, deep but not too deep, with flat ribs carried well back. Her topline is super both standing and on the move. Harsh coat and loose pelt. In super condition she used her well developed and muscular rear end to power round the ring. RESERVE BITCH CC
2nd - Blewecourt Harlem (Mr M & Mrs T Morgan)
Full sister to the winner and similar comments apply. The head on this bitch is slightly squarer and as such I just preferred her littermate.

A deceptive bitch as she appears larger than she is when handled, she spans easily and is another in excellent condition with toned muscle all over. Head all in proportion with hard expression good lines and enough length. An excellent example of a blue and tan, coat being harsh, double with ideal ticking. Moved with purpose. Her handler gets the best out of her and she pushed hard for honours.

A light grizzle and a size smaller than the winner but maturing nicely. Lovely feminine head of good shape with small ears. Good bite but teeth not the size of some. Nice front, neat feet with a correct shoulder laid well back, good body length, level topline and tail set well on. Double coat moving OK.

A handy sized bitch with strong head, wide muzzle and dark eyes set wide apart. Not a feminine bitch but has nice lines, is spannable and has well developed muscle. Good rear angles, with correct set tail and moves well enough.
2nd - Karison Kokoa (Miss K Johnson)
Just over a year old and a completely different type. She is very sweet, appealing and feminine. Head all in proportion with a good bite and surprisingly large teeth. Good length of neck, narrow throughout, short tail, harsh coat and loose pelt. Lacked bend of stifle and for me a size too small.

What a cracker. Set out to impress and she did. This dark grizzle is built on racy lines. An attractive bitch, she has excellent profiles both standing and when moving with such drive. Lovely feminine head with short muzzle, well placed ears and good width across the skull. Super front and shoulder angulation with neat feet and the best of rear angles. Nice body length with flat ribs carried right back. Harshest of tight coats and in super condition. Never stopped showing and unlucky to meet the dog in top form. BITCH CC
2nd - Picer Grace Darling (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering)
Another from the top drawer, a fraction larger and in full double coat today but still spanned comfortably. Typical head from this kennel, strong with wide muzzle and excellent bite of large teeth. Well off for bone she has a good front and body shape. Super well placed tail and carries a thick pelt. Strode out well using muscular rear quarters.

A quality blue & tan bitch. Another strong in head with good teeth, dark eye, flat skull and alert expression. Super reach of neck down to a straight, narrow front. On the leg, she has a deep narrow body and flat ribs with short tail spot on. Good muscle tone used to drive out and cover the ground well. Harshest of tight coats and pliable pelt.
2nd - CH Remony Barley Twist JW ShCM (Mrs A E Gregory)
This well known champion has a typical head with short muzzle, no stop and correct bite. Shorter coupled than some, she has an excellent parallel front, good shoulder and rear angulations.
