Darlington Championship Show
13th Sep 2025
Judge: Mrs. Carolyn Richardson (Staynorwood)
I would like to thank Darlington Championship Show Committee for inviting me to judge my first appointment to give CC's. Thank you to my very capable Stewards, Katrina and Margaret, for keeping everything moving and running to time.
Generally the condition of the dogs today was very good with many missing out on the top spot due to the strength of quality present. In the Bitch classes, I had some difficult decisions to make as several classes had many quality exhibits with lots of promise, splitting hairs at times in more than one class. I was very pleased with my principle winners on the day.

At just 6 month old this young lady is of lovely breed type. Feminine head, dark eye and neat ears, good topline and lovely carrot tail, easily spannable. Balanced angles fore and aft, looked a picture in profile movement covering the ground well, good depth of coat and thick pelt. BP.

My sincere thanks to the exhibitors for allowing me the privilege to go over your dogs
Thank you all for the wonderful entry in terms of numbers & the depth & quality I had to judge, however I did have concerns about the size & movement of some of the exhibits & found a couple of mouths that were not quite correct
A huge thank you to my two stewards Bridget Singh & Anita Taylor for their help on the day

I would like to thank the officers and committee for asking me to judge the show, also making me feel so welcomed. My biggest thanks go to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs and for the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted.
However, there was a harsh lesson learnt by me this day. Do not trust/rely on the stewards to be always be right. Believe in myself when someone appears to be more experienced at stewarding but has called the wrong dog into the ring. Stand firm.
Having come into Borders through hunting and horses; I like a dog in fit hard condition that can keep up with the horse and hounds over hill and field. Essentially a working terrier.

Many thanks to the committee of Bridgend and District Kennel Association for the invitation to judge Border Terriers at their well run and friendly show. My thanks also extend to the cheerful and efficient Stewards, and exhibitors, who appeared to take my decisions with good grace. All exhibits were sound in temperament and with no kinked tails or unacceptable bites.

11-month-old Grizzle and tan bitch. Much to like about this young girl. Super, feminine head with kind dark expressive eyes, strong jaw with big teeth and a correct scissor bite. Larger cast than 1 but perfectly in proportion and sporting a cracking thick coat and pelt. Another with correct ratios throughout and a good underline. Ribs well back and good set on of tail. Just pipped at the post today as not as positive and forward on the move today as 1, which was then reflected in her reach and drive. I am sure time and experience will bring this on.
