Thank you to the committee and exhibitors for such a lovely day. Overall the quality was good, a lot of nice breed types, good feet, mouths, and was able to span most on the day.

Litter sister to winner. Excellent overall balance. Not as forward as winner. Good head proportions. Clean neck. Good topline and long, narrow ribcage. Harsh coat. Good bone and feet. Correct tail. Not as tidy in rear movement but good in profile.

I’d like to thank the society for asking me to judge at this their first premier open show, and the lovely hospitality received. Thanks also to my stewards Sue and Alison who kept the ring running smoothly. Thank you to all the exhibitors for the privilege of judging your dogs.

6mth g/t bitch who very much appealed for size. Lovely feminine head, small neat ears and a keen dark eye. Good reach of neck and well placed shoulders, good length of rib, leading in to a level top line and short carroty tail well set on. Coat was of a good wiry texture with a loose pliable pelt. Movement was unsettled which cost her best puppy to her litter brother in the challenge, a very nice pup who I liked a lot. Many of the same comments applied to the dog puppy Whitestubbs Gandhi Boy Bach that was unplaced in a strong special yearling class, just felt his movement was more settled today, who went on to get BPIB and TPG4

Thanks for the good entry, marred by absentees, it seems some had entered two shows today and unfortunately for me chose to go to the other one!

Grizzle in lovely coat, feet could be tighter, balanced head, good bite. Still needs to let down a little at the rear on the move although o.k. on the stand .

I must thank the officers and committee for allowing me to judge their Club Open show which was a great honour and which I really enjoyed. The hospitality and the friendly atmosphere made for a nice show and the quality of the dogs was exceptional. I must thank the Club for the lovely gift and Jan Hollingsbee for the flowers which are still alive and looking good. I must also thank my steward Julie Green who gave up her entry to steward for me.

Of a nice height to length and shows a smart outline as she stands under control on the stance and works with and watches her handler. Feminine head in my opinion not the shape or strength of head or skull of my winner, I would like more strength and length of foreface. Well set and used ears, dark sweet look to dark eyes, moderate stop. Good moderate neck well laid-back shoulders good span behind, firm level backline correct tail well set and carried well. Lovely weight and depth to body with ribs well back into short loin. Well angulated front and rear, good straight well boned fore legs and tight padded feet. Hindquarters having good strength, short strong hocks moved out well and was sound both ends. Nicely presented harsh dense red jacket with correct undercoat.

My thanks firstly go to the Society for the kind invitation to judge this show and also to the exhibitors who trusted me with their lovely Border Terriers. All my class winners were of very good quality and were in super condition which was very pleasing. I did feel some of the exhibits perhaps weren’t so comfortable on the arena surface. Also some were not awfully animated which I felt may have been contributed to the cold weather as they seemed not to be very relaxed through the loin.

I would first like to thank all the exhibitors for a lovely entry, and for making the effort to travel to the N.E.C on a dark winter’s morning. There was a variation in breed type to a degree, which is always the case, but I was very happy with both my final lineups and only wish I could hand out more awards.

Thank you to the Committee for inviting me to judge at this level for the first time, and also to my very efficient ring steward who kept things running smoothly. I had a lovely day and felt it was a great honour and responsibility. I really appreciated each and every entry, and had some lovely exhibits to go over, the depth of quality in some classes meaning that some nice dogs went cardless. Coats were understandably at different stages, and although this has no bearing on the construction of the dog, a good coat does complete the picture of what is essentially a working terrier.

Thankyou to the officers and committee for the support and courtesy extended to me at this well-run breed club show. I also want to thank and congratulate Sheila Hales the show manager, David Hunt and Lyn Aldrich my stewards and Andrew Mooney for ensuring everything was in order and ran smoothly. My last thanks must go to the exhibitors for a quality entry and allowing me to go over their dogs, as well as the sporting way they accepted my decisions. It was a great atmosphere, all the dogs and bitches displayed good temperaments, all males entire, a couple of level bites which is of course acceptable and a wide variety of types with some carrying too much condition which I couldn’t span and were heavy. Coats were at varying stages of growth and I was pleased to feel a number of good thick pelts. I judged as I saw the dogs on the day and had at the fore the essentials required for ‘essentially a working terrier’.

Another lovely headed bitch with a good bite and ear set. Good neck, straight front and narrow all through. Good for bone, size and overall balance, coat not as good as 1st. but good tail set and moved well.
