Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge, this was my first time awarding CC’s. Thank you to my stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly. A big thank you must go to the exhibitors for a good entry especially on a Thursday in the middle of Wales in the current climate we live in. I only have a couple of concerns. Movement is paramount in our breed and these dogs should be able to cover ground easily I found due to poor shoulder angulation a few had restrained front movement. I did forgive coat in class placings where evidence of a new coat was present, however I did find a lot of single coated dogs possibly down to over grooming, my main winners all had correct double coat of depth. I had a very enjoyable day, thank you to everyone for accepting my decisions gracefully.

Sincere thanks go firstly, to the Committee for inviting me to judge at their Show, Secondly to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity of going over their dogs and last, but not least, to my Steward, Marina Fleming, for her assistance in keeping the ring running smoothly. Judge Peter Armstrong My thanks must go to the Officers and hard working Committee for the kind invitation to judge at their Open Show. It was a quality entry of bitches, so thank you to all exhibitors for bringing them and for their sporting acceptance of my decisions. I would also like to thank my two stewards for keeping the ring running in an orderly manner. Judge Lesley Armstrong

Many thanks to EABT for asking me to judge and to all the exhibitors for entering under me. All males entire. 3 dogs with level bites, the rest all had good mouths. No kinked tails. Some very nice youngsters in the ring today, a real credit to their breeders.

I won my first Crufts qualifier at this show 25 years ago and it has always been one of my favourites. It was an honour to be invited to judge and my thanks go to the Scottish Club for their hospitality. Thanks also to my very capable stewards Bill Shorthose and Judy Carr.My sincere thanks to all those who entered and allowed me the privilege of going over their dogs. Today I found there to be a much greater depth of quality among the bitches with there being many promising puppies and some very nice animals in the upper classes, particularly limit and open. This depth of quality was not apparent in a number of the dog classes although I was pleased with my main winners. As would be expected there was some diversity in size and type.A number of exhibits of both sexes were up to size- I have big hands so if I find them difficult to span they are probably too big. I found all males to be entire, no serious mouth faults and one kinked tail.Of most concern was the number of dogs with very poor front movement and the number with atypical heads; some too long in muzzle and a few where the muzzle was too short, the latter giving a rather cat like look. Coats and pelts were generally good and a few dogs would benefit from more exercise to improve their muscletone.A fairly minor fault, but one which detracts from the overall outline, were the dogs which carried their tails curled over their backs i.e “gay tailed” as opposed to carrying their tails gaily. Some of these faults are aesthetic but others such as size and soundness are not and we should be mindful that our breed is “essentially a working terrier.”

Firstly I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge there well run show, also many thanks must go to my very capable stewards on an excellent job in keeping the ring running smoothly. The biggest thanks must go the exhibitors for there entries, and there sportsmanship on my decisions. In my opinon,my findings where as follows, the standard asks for “essencially a working terrier”,this is a statement that is very close to my heart. Unfortunatley some do not fit this, short upperarms are still very present, restricting reach in movement. Some dogs would benefit from less food and more exercise. Muscle tone varied greatly, some dogs lacking, these dogs are bred to do a job. With the rising costs of entries, some exhibits would benefit greatly from a good tidy up and the mud removed from there under bellies. I was pleased with my overall winners, some nice quality exhibits.

My sincere thanks to the committee for their kind invitation to judge Borders and the warm hospitality on offer at this show . To my stewards on the day, Lauren and Phil , a big thank you for keeping the ring running smoothly and ensuring the exhibitors enjoyed their experience. Sadly ,once again it was obvious that the numbers present on the day were greatly affected by the fact there were three open shows, all with breed specialists judging, on the same day . Nonetheless , I thank all the exhibitors who honored me with an entry. To those exhibitors present on the day , thanks for allowing me the privilege of going over your dogs and accepting my decisions in a sporting manner . Generally , the dogs coming forward today were well presented and conditioned , one or two may have benefitted from a little more detailed grooming to enhance certain points of their conformation but on the whole I enjoyed my time handling a fine bunch of Borders

10 month old B&T girl . Nice feminine head and expression with correct proportions . Dentition ok , Not as fine in the shoulders as I would like and brisket making her appear a little wide in front at the moment. Excellent coat texture and nice loose pelt . Would like to see her ribbed back a little further but loin was ok and her movement was true. Nice short tail straight off the spine giving a nice topline and tail set.

I would like to thank the SToY for giving me the opportunity to judge the four classes of Border Terriers on this, my first judging appointment; the exhibitors who trusted me to evaluate their dogs/bitches and to Mr John Thomas, who kindly donated, the £10 for Best of Breed and £10 for the Best Puppy in Breed. The committee did a sterling job given the last-minute change of venue; and my stewards, Margaret and Julie, kept the ring moving smoothly and effortlessly. I was pleased with the number of entries, and it was great to see some fine examples of ‘otter – like’ heads – the breed stamp. All dogs were spannable today, and most had correct small tight round feet. It was gratifying to see many examples of sound fluid movement, and good construction– Movement is so important for the Borders terrier to do its job- “Essentially a working terrier “.

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your show. Thanks to Paul and Yvonne the stewards on the day. A big thank you to the exhibitors for allowing me to judge your lovely borders on the day. The quality of the entries was very good, not enough cards to go around! I made my decisions based on the dog on the day, another day many could swap places. I was looking for good confirmation and movement on the day, I let presentation take a back seat as coats can come and go, but confirmation and movement never change. One or two were hard to span and a couple with tight almost level bites.

Many thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge at WELKS, it was quite a few years ago now, as I was due to judge them at the beginning of lockdown. Due to the heavy rain that had fallen over the preceding days, all judging was inside. It was slightly draughty, but we were allocated a double ring, so plenty of space, to see the exhibits stride out. I must thank the two stewards Lynn Jones and Celia Vines who kept the ring flowing beautifully and the exhibitors for making prompt appearances, we did well for time, starting approx. 0930 and finishing around 14:45. I thank all exhibitors for a wonderful entry (123 dogs making 172 entries} for a Thursday in Malvern and appreciate their time and expense for entering under me. There was plenty of quality to choose from and I was happy with my final decisions. Dentition was very good and a pleasure to judge dogs with clean teeth. I did find muscle tone to be poor/average in a lot of the exhibits, which must be one of the key areas for any working terrier. Jackets were mixed as was movement.

I would like to thank all the Officers and Committee of the Midland Border Terrier Club for inviting me to judge their club open show. It is now 17 years that I have been judging Border Terriers and it was the 6th August 2011 that I attended the Midland Border Terrier Club breed specific seminar when Jena Tuck was the secretary. I was very pleased with my entry of 112 quality dogs and bitches, also I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the exhibitors who entered and for allowing me to go over their dogs. They all showed and behaved very well. I can report back to you that you have overall one of the soundest breeds that I have judged. Last but not least I would like to thank my stewards who did an excellent job keeping everything flowing smoothly between the two shows in the Margaret Everton Pavilion

First, I thank the committee for the invitation to judge this prestigious show. Thanks to my stewards for making a super job and keep my judging running smoothly. It was a real honour and privilege as foreign judge and breeder to have the opportunity of this 1st appointment to give CC in my breed, and thank to exhibitors to allow me to go over so many good Border. Being able in my country to work my dogs, I have been looking for the right conformation as asks in the standard, making dogs able to do their original work underground and was happy many could do so.

Many thanks go to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge Border Terriers at this, the Leicester City Canine Society Open Dog Show and also to the exhibitors for presenting me with such an excellent entry, which was a real privilege to assess. There were some close decisions and I would like to thank all those who accepted my decisions so sportingly. Special thanks must also to my two stewards Keith Price and Nicky Holden for keeping both the ring, and me, in check. Our allocated ring was remarkably quite extensive, which is often not the case in indoor areas of this nature, with plenty of space around for cages and seating etc. One minor glitch however, was the provision of a full size trestle table as a ring table. This did cause some problems for exhibitors, when standing their dogs and for myself, the vertically challenged judge, when going over the exhibits.

Blue & Tan bitch. Owns a definitely feminine head of correct proportions with a keen alert gaze, good eye of correct shape and colour, small low set on ears. Strong muzzle and good dentition. Straight front if perhaps a little wide. Level topline maintained on the move. Well constructed throughout. Presented in a good harsh coat on a thick pelt. Good carrot shaped tail. Just could not match the enthusiasm and drive of the winner today.

Many Thanks to WELKS for asking me to judge at their show, it was an honour, also thank you so much to everyone that entered under me, I had some great dogs to go over. Congratulation to all my winners. Thanks also go to my very competent stewards for keeping my ring running smoothly. All the males were entire. Apart from 3 level bites all mouths were correct and teeth of good size. Temperaments were all sound except one or two that really didn’t like being in the noisy hall and were a little bit subdued. It’s hard to judge true movement on a slippery concrete floor and in some classes the placings could have changed if we had been outside on grass.

Sorry for delay in critiques, work commitments had to take priority. Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge the October show which was brought forward in conjunction with the May show. Thank you to my two stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly, which wasn’t easy with two shows running side by side. Thank you to the Exhibitors for a lovely entry and accepting my decisions in a sportsmanlike manner. I had some difficult decisions especially in the bitch classes where I just didn’t have enough cards to hand out. Coats from last time I judged had improved and it was a pleasure to see so many in correct double coat of depth. On the whole movement was good. I did find a couple of incorrect bites and one kinked tail
