The Scottish Border Terrier Club Championship Show
9th Nov 2024
Judge: Mr A Horner (Stineval)
I would like to thank SCBTC and committee for the privilege of judging this years Championship show and thank my very capable steward Euan Castell for keeping the ring flowing and the exhibitors for their lovely entry. There were some really nice dogs for me to go over. But I must say that looking at them in general heads are starting to stray away from that of the border terrier, the other thing that I think needs addressing is the general cleanliness of their exhibits. I found three suspect mouths and two kinked tails . thank you one and all for an enjoyable day,

The Border Terrier Club Open Show
22nd Feb 2025
Judge: Andrea Dixon (Otterpaws)
Thank you to the club for the invitation to judge at one of my favourite breed club shows and the exhibitors for their entries. Thank you to my stewards Judy Carr and Kath Lothian. Overall, I found fronts to be very varied, ranging from wide to very narrow and resulting movement a reflection of this, most dogs were spannable. I found no issue with temperaments.

G&T shown in a loose but harsh coat. would prefer tighter pasterns but still a young dog, so time for movement and confirmation to mature.
Scottish Kennel Club 205th Championship Show
17th May 2025
Judge: Mr Ian Hopper (Esyntona)
Thank you to the following. SKC for inviting me to judge after my two previous appointments at Driffield were cancelled due to corvid restrictions and the storms. The stewards who helped keeping the classes running smoothly at times we had to wait for exhibitors who were showing in the SKC Champ show in the adjacent ring. To all the exhibitors who entered their dogs under me, I was looking for dogs that were fit for function for what they were originally bred for even though very few get the chance to carry this out.

Border Union
14th Jun 2025
Judge: Ms Judith Fawcett (Carrock)
My thanks to the Border Union Agricultural Society for their kind invitation to judge their Golden Anniversary Championship show and also for the lovely gift. Thanks also to my two stewards, who kept the ring running smoothly throughout the day which meant we managed to finish just after 3pm in time for the group. I had a fantastic entry and would like to thank all exhibitors for the opportunity to go over their dogs and for the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted. I did try to keep the judging in the large outdoor ring, but the weather didn’t really play ball on the day and we ended up in the smaller indoor ring in the tent. The large pole in the middle of the indoor ring wasn’t particularly helpful either, but I believe we managed OK, and there was sufficient room for me to assess the movement of all exhibits. As you would expect, coats were at various stages but on the whole most were acceptable. All dogs were entire, there were no kinked tails and only one or two untidy mouths. Border Union is one of my favourite shows and with some quality dogs to judge, I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

Up on the leg and rangier than 1. He was very narrow and easy to span. Moderate in head, nice dark eye, but a slightly longer muzzle than I would like. He was a little unsettled on the move today and would benefit from a tidy up
