I would like to thank Darlington Championship Show Committee for inviting me to judge my first appointment to give CC's. Thank you to my very capable Stewards, Katrina and Margaret, for keeping everything moving and running to time.
Generally the condition of the dogs today was very good with many missing out on the top spot due to the strength of quality present. In the Bitch classes, I had some difficult decisions to make as several classes had many quality exhibits with lots of promise, splitting hairs at times in more than one class. I was very pleased with my principle winners on the day.

BP. This puppy caught my eye as she came into the ring.. Handy size. Feminine otter head of correct proportions. Strong muzzle with correct dentition and strong jaw. Neat ears held close to the cheek. Flat skull. Nice reach of neck into good shoulders. Well ribbed. Strong loin. Short tail set on well. Moved freely both ways. Pleased to award her best Bitch Puppy. Very promising puppy I will watch her showing career with interest.

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to Judge their open show, the hospitality was fantastic. I would also all the exhibitors who entered allowing me the pleasure of going over their dogs. My stewards done an amazing job keeping the ring flowing throughout the day. Overall the quality of the entry was good; however my one observation is that we are beginning to lose correct front movement, with wide fronts or flicking at the pasterns creeping in.

Pushed first hard today another I liked for her type and balance. Typical otter head with a keen expression, strong jaw and correct bite. She too had a good rear of neck which flowed into a well-placed shoulder. Lovely lay of rib which was easily spanned. Racy rear which she used to advantage on the move with purpose and drive holding her topline
Class Critique
Another class of promising puppies who I am sure will change places and I will watch with interest.

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge the show and for your great hospitality. Thanks also to my stewarts on the day, Marina and Jane, who kept everything running smoothly and enabled me to finish judging in good time. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for their entries.
Coats were at various stages on the day and I found one kinked tail and one mouth with misaligned teeth. I also noticed that a few of the exhibits had small teeth which we do not want to become the norm and should be discouraged.

Eleven month old grizzle and tan. Another nice balanced bitch. Lovely feminine head. Dark eye and strength to muzzle with correct scissor bite. Nice length and reach to neck flowing into level topline and well set tail. Easy to span and good pelt. Straight front and small feet. Also moved well.

Two smashing young bitches headed this class with little between them.
Northern Counties Sporting Terrier Association Open Show

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Northern Counties Sporting Terrier Association and The Northern Border Terrier Club for choosing me for this appointment, a breed club supported show. Also thank you to all the exhibitors for giving me an amazing entry of 36 dogs to go over.
There were some very good exhibits for me to judge, and there were many hard decisions to be for the placements in some classes. Mouths were good in all exhibits and there were no noticeable kinks in tails. All were span-able some were up in size but would be able to do the job they were built for.

12 ½ month old grizzle and tan bitch. Good head of correct proportions. Neat well placed ears carried close to cheek. Dark eye with keen expression , short strong muzzle with correct dentition. Moderate neck into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Narrow all through with well let down chest and ribs carried well back. Firm loin. Well balanced with moderate angles front and rear and standing on tidy well padded feet. Moved out well holding good topline, short carrot tail carried well with plenty of ring presence! BOB

almost 13 months old bitch with lots to like – feminine head with a keen dark eye, flat skull and neat dark ears. Narrow throughout, she has a good length of rib and a strong loin, very easy to span and light to pick up; well angulated front and rear. Eye catching in colour red grizzle coat and thick pelt. Holds herself well on the move and has a certain ring presence, especially for someone so young. Handled to perfection. Will watch her with interest. RBB.

Thank you to my stewards who helped me with their friendly efficiency that made it easy for me to concentrate on the Border Terrier judging. A bit of pressure to get out of the ring but I hope this did not spoil anything for my top winners or the other exhibitors who seemed to appreciate my choices out of a wonderful group of dogs. A couple of close bites and the odd bump in tails, some under/over weight exhibits which was a shame as some may well have moved further up the line. As expected a great deal of variation in coats but the vast majority were presented as well as they could be in their growth cycle. Thanks to everyone who entered and showed such good sportsmanship in accepting my decisions and supporting others. I was delighted with my class winner lines ups for both dogs and bitches, some hotly contested classes and tough choices for me throughout the day.

My notes express how much I liked her and it was when on the table, feeling beneath her harsh double jacket where I found what was in my opinion the best exhibit of the day. Super head that is feminine otter like with dark eyes and neat V shaped ears. Correct moderation continues through to well placed shoulders, length and shape of rib, strong loin, racy hindquarters with well angulated rear gave her drive when striding out both ways. Great topline and well-set short carrot like tail completed the picture. She was a real delight to go over, her breed qualities stuck in my mind as being from the top draw! It was my pleasure to award her a well-deserved BCC and best of breed today.
