The Border Terrier Club Open Show
18th Oct 2025
Judge: Mrs Anne Higham (Comberdown)
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge the show and for your great hospitality. Thanks also to my stewarts on the day, Marina and Jane, who kept everything running smoothly and enabled me to finish judging in good time. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for their entries.
Coats were at various stages on the day and I found one kinked tail and one mouth with misaligned teeth. I also noticed that a few of the exhibits had small teeth which we do not want to become the norm and should be discouraged.

Northern Counties Sporting Terrier Association Open Show
19th Oct 2025
Judge: Glenn Birrell
I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Northern Counties Sporting Terrier Association and The Northern Border Terrier Club for choosing me for this appointment, a breed club supported show. Also thank you to all the exhibitors for giving me an amazing entry of 36 dogs to go over.
There were some very good exhibits for me to judge, and there were many hard decisions to be for the placements in some classes. Mouths were good in all exhibits and there were no noticeable kinks in tails. All were span-able some were up in size but would be able to do the job they were built for.

Selby CS Open Show

Judge: Miss Angie Nettle (Onziemehurst)
I would like to thank the officers and committee for asking me to judge the show, also making me feel so welcomed. My biggest thanks go to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs and for the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted.
However, there was a harsh lesson learnt by me this day. Do not trust/rely on the stewards to be always be right. Believe in myself when someone appears to be more experienced at stewarding but has called the wrong dog into the ring. Stand firm.
Having come into Borders through hunting and horses; I like a dog in fit hard condition that can keep up with the horse and hounds over hill and field. Essentially a working terrier.

8 month old very pleasing bitch who was, unfortunately very unsettled, therefore, difficult to assess due to the noise level of other dogs crated next to the ring entrance.
Scottish Border Terrier Club Championship Show
8th Nov 2025
Judge: Mrs Janet Lee (Tythrop)
Thanks to Scottish Border Terrier club for inviting me to judge at their 2025 Ch show , hospitality as ever was excellent . My two Stewards kept things running smoothly , so thanks to Judy & Pam too .
I enjoyed my day with some very nice borders and only one or two folk were obviously unhappy , the rest took my decisions sportingly & I thank all for coming .
Overall the good dogs & bitches pleased me a lot , but some were simply not workmanlike enough to easily get to ground and back out again . Feet were very flat and thin in quite a few , one kinked tail , 2 rather poor bites & several lacking any muscle …. Active and game , capable of following horse or hounds , with the lithe build to enable earthwork in tight places is what we need …. I found a few good quality males & slightly more top quality females that could do the job if given opportunity , some however were too big in rib & wide in front and weighed well over standard . So some adjustment in future breeding plans may be necessary I felt , to return to a smaller narrower frame .

I would like to thank the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at this friendly and well-organised show. To all the exhibitors, it was a true honour to assess your wonderful dogs, with many decisions being closely contested. I thoroughly enjoyed my day—thank you. I would also like to thank my hard-working stewards, Julie & Ian, for keeping the day running smoothly.

10-month-old grizzle bitch possesses an appealing overall shape and size, very feminine. I liked her head, which showed good balance and proportions, with ample skull width and strength through the muzzle. She has a pleasing length of neck that flows into a firm topline. Her tail is slightly longer and was carried a touch high on the move. I preferred her coat to the winner's, appreciating its harsh texture. However, she was somewhat erratic on the move in this class.
