another 6 month old blue and tan puppy. Correct feminine head with short strong muzzle and good bite. Well set ears and dark expressive eyes. Moderate neck. Well balanced angles good depth to ribs that are carried well back . Correct carrot tail with good tail set carried well on the move. Moved straight and true. Excellent harsh coat and thick pelt.

I want to thank the society for inviting me to judge Border Terriers for the first time. I was absolutely thrilled with my entry, and I had some lovely exhibits to go over and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pleased to see all had good bites, all had good temperaments and most were in good coat. A few, particularly the males, were verging on too big for me. Also, I feel I should urge exhibitors not to run with their dogs, it makes the movement harder to assess and can cause the dogs not to stride out properly. Thank you all for entering under me and thank you to my brilliant stewards Helen and Kev for keeping the ring running efficiently and smoothly.

Many thanks for the lovely entry, both in terms of quality and quantity. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with the Border Terriers. When I last judged I felt there were too many with houndy large ears, this did not seem to be replicated in today’s entry which was pleasing and expression was generally much improved. What I did notice was that front action is something that we need to watch. Being Manchester and the last Championship show pre Crufts there were quite a few dogs who had been stripped in preparation and quite a few out of coat. In part that did play a part in some of my fineer placings.

8 month old, blue & tan, with feminine head and correct bite. Ears dropping close to cheeks, in good coat and thick pelt. Narrow and easily spanned, slightly taller than 1st, but balanced and moved well, just preferred the overall outline of 1st.
