After over 17 years of updating the site my thoughts are that the site will, at some point, need additional help to ensure its continuation if that’s what Border Terrier enthusiasts want to see. I’m not planning to stop, but it’s important to have support in place if needed and for the future.
The site will need a considerable commitment from anyone willing to take on the role or part of the role.
The site requires some basics, such as new Borders adding, results from all championship, breed club and breed club supported shows adding along with critiques when available.
Liason with Breed Clubs for results to be sent in from club shows, and contact with judges to receive critiques when available.
Forthcoming shows are added for the above plus open shows requested via the contact page, WhatsApp or email.
Results and critiques from open shows are added when sent in via WhatsApp or email.
Additionally, SLEM test results are added quarterly, which often involves adding new Borders not in the site along with any missing pedigrees. This can take a long time, so a few each day until its done. Care is required to ensure accuracy. Regular enquiries for puppies and older Borders arise. Assistance with photographs is occasionally required.
Borders from outside the UK are added when requested, or when shown in the UK, this often requires pedigree research across multiple regions and web sites.
Mistakes occur from time to time, regardless where it arose, correct the error and move on is all you can do, correction essential.
On a personal note, no expenses have ever been taken, 100% less PayPal fees is available for the site. Donations are not sufficient to pay someone for their time unless a commercial model is implemented for the site. Donations cover hosting related costs and enhancements, the site is financially sound in this respect.
Please don’t rush to volunteer, it’s a major undertaking and it would put the site at risk if time and effort can’t be maintained. May I suggest if interested take some time considering the commitment. It’s typically a few hours intermittently on a show day to add results, 30 to 45 minutes to add a critique, 3 to 4 minutes to add a Border with parents on the site, plus a few hours in the gaps between show days each week.
Thanks for reading, let me know if interested in due course via the contact page or directly if you have my contact details, regards Chris Wallace.
