First Place in Puppy, Judge: Siân McKay (Redesholt)
I would like to thank the committee of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, for inviting me to judge Border Terriers at their Premier Open Show. I thank them further for managing to arrange glorious weather! I thoroughly enjoyed my day and I must thank the exhibitors for giving me a lovely entry and some super dogs to go over, and to my Steward Marie, who carried on to steward for the next class as well.
I am glad to note that I found no kinked tails, or suspect mouths. Coats as usual were in all stages of growth and in general fronts were good; and there were some good Otter-like heads in evidence. I was pleased with my final line up, who all moved with super reach and drive – essentially a working terrier!
Grizzle and tan bitch who turned 1 at start of show. She caught my eye as she entered the ring with her confident demeanour, and super level topline that she kept whilst on the move. She worked with her handler to produce a balanced movement with excellent reach and drive, producing a powerful flowing movement. She possesses a feminine head with shallow stop, lovely reach of neck into well placed shoulders, and is narrow through with strong loin and good length of back. Excellent rear angulation, and racy hindquarters; correct underline with no tuck up; finishing with a carrot-like tail which was held in the correct position. Immaculately presented, with harsh coat and thick pelt. Pleased to be able to award her Best Puppy in Breed and to watch her gain further honours with PTG1 and then RBPIS.
