First Place in Open, Judge: Siân McKay (Redesholt)
My thanks go to the Committee of the Wigan and District Canine Society for the opportunity to judge today (we were kept well fed and watered!), and to my steward for her assistance in the ring. The show was very well attended and was therefore very busy and noisy. The Border ring was right next to an open door which unfortunately did appear to have a detrimental effect on a few exhibits, leading to some inconsistent and unsettled presentations. That aside, there were some lovely dogs to go over – no major faults to note, and all had very pleasing loose pelts. Coats, as to be expected, were in various stages of growth.
This 2-year-old grizzle and tan dog caught my eye as soon as he stepped into the ring with his self-assured balanced movement. Super, masculine otter like head, with alert gaze, big teeth and strong muzzle. Lovely outline of correct ratios, level topline which he kept on the move, and corresponding good underline with racy hindquarters. Correct shoulder placement led to well laid back ribs of good length. Shown in an excellent harsh dense coat and loose pelt. Moved well to secure first place and Best of Breed. TG3.
