First Place in Junior, Judge: Siân McKay (Redesholt)
My thanks go to the Committee of the Wigan and District Canine Society for the opportunity to judge today (we were kept well fed and watered!), and to my steward for her assistance in the ring. The show was very well attended and was therefore very busy and noisy. The Border ring was right next to an open door which unfortunately did appear to have a detrimental effect on a few exhibits, leading to some inconsistent and unsettled presentations. That aside, there were some lovely dogs to go over – no major faults to note, and all had very pleasing loose pelts. Coats, as to be expected, were in various stages of growth.
17-month-old grizzle and tan bitch. Characteristic ‘otter’ head with keen expression, big teeth and shallow stop. Straight front and correct bone, with small feet and thick pads. Good reach of neck into a straight topline; good length of rib carried well back. Racy hindquarters and carroty tail. Coat was harsh and dense. Worked well with handler in this class and moved efficiently and with purpose.
