First Place in Open - Bitch, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)
I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.
Very well put together grizzle bitch. Very much in proportion throughout. Her body lines set off by a head showing breadth and depth of foreface, a broad, flat skull, shallow stop, dark eye and small v shaped ears. Appropriate reach of neck blending into clean shoulders and level topline. Straight front legs with well -padded paws. A good turn of stifle gave her drive on the move. Double harsh coat and tight pelt. Spanned with ease. Showed beautifully for her handler.
