Second Place in Post Graduate - Bitch, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)
I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.
Smart blue and tan bitch. Very well balanced in outline. Her body lines set off by a typical head with broad skull, short foreface, dark eye and neat ears. Narrow front. Pleasing length of neck into well angulated shoulders. Good length and shape of rib, lending her a nice underline. Harsh double jacket and thick pelt. Spanned with ease. Good bend of stifle, moving in profile with drive. Rear movement fine but lost out to 1 as she lost concentration in her front movement in the challenge.
