First Place in Open - Dog, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)
I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.
Caught my eye when he came into the ring. Lovely balance to this grizzle dog who spanned well. Clean, classic body lines. Otter head set off by neat, well shaped ears, flat skull, short strong foreface and a great scissor bite showing big white teeth. Great length of rib and strong loin. Fairly short double jacket and some depth of pelt. Straight front legs and neat thickly padded feet. Rear end well angulated. Moved with drive. Front and rear movement true. Tip top condition and showed well. BOS
