Carlisle & District Canine Society Open Show (31-07-2022)

Second Place in Post Graduate - Dog, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)

Show Critique:

I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.

Placing Critique:

Workmanlike grizzle dog, stronger in type overall than 1. Breadth and depth to skull and deep foreface. Dark eye and kindly expression. Strong well- boned legs set on well-padded feet. Great pigmentation. Deep double harsh coat, almost ready for stripping, and thick pelt. Spannable. Appropriate front and rear angulation. A quiet, relaxed attitude in the ring. Just preferred the balance and body lines of 1.
