First Place in Post Graduate - Dog, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)
I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.
Clean, racy lines to this grizzle dog. Ottery head with broad skull and strong foreface. Shallow stop setting off a dark keen eye. Elegant neck flowed into clean shoulders and good length of rib. Harsh double coat and pliable pelt. Spanned with ease. Strong loin. Rear quarters well angulated. Moved out well.
