Second Place in Puppy - Dog, Judge: Dr Margaret Armstrong (Ploughdown)
I’d like to offer my thanks to Carlisle and District Canine Society for asking me to judge Borders on the day and to the committee of the Border Terrier Club for proposing me for the appointment. It was a very bright, sunny day so being inside the arena gave the exhibitors and the exhibits some relief from the heat. Although generally Borders prefer the open air and often give of their best outside. I’d like to offer my appreciation to my steward on the day for his efficient and effective management of the classes; he was super. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and were so pleasant and sporting in accepting my placings. My decisions were based on how I saw the dogs on the day and some decisions were very close.
grizzle dog, litter brother to 1. Slightly more on the leg than 1 at this stage. Showed breadth of skull and short foreface with little stop. Alert expression in his dark eye. Slightly longer in body than 1. Neck flowed into level topline and good tail set. Double coat and pelt as his litter brother. Spanned easily. Straight front legs and neat feet. Good bend of stifle. Moved out soundly. Just preferred the overall balance of 1 at this early age.
