First Place in Minor Puppy - Dog, Judge: Mr. Tim Ball (Kaitak)
A thoroughly enjoyable day and my thanks go to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge their well-run Open Show. I was delighted with the excellent entry and what a pleasure it was to spend a day with the Borders and their owners. There were some well-filled classes which gave me lots to think about and some decisions were extremely close. A lovely atmosphere prevailed and applause for the winners was consistent throughout.
Approaching 8 months this youngster got the day off to a really good start. I thought him most promising and he greatly appealed for overall type and balance. Muscular neck of moderate length, firm topline, ribbed well back, muscular loin, good underline and tail just right for length, set and carriage. Masculine head with moderate breadth of skull, dark expressive eyes set well apart, ears of correct set, strong muzzle of correct length and excellent dentition. He has good angles both front and rear, stands nice and straight in front on good feet and is well muscled all through. Rib developing well for age and not over-sprung. Harsh jacket with dense undercoat and nice thick pelt. Moving freely with good carriage and very well handled. Later in the dog challenge he matched the Best Dog winner for outline and balance and was awarded Reserve Best Dog and subsequently Best Puppy in Show.
