First Place in Open - Bitch, Judge: Mrs Jill Stevens (Cobstoneway)
I would like to thank the committee for giving me the honour of judging at this lovely show, and for the hospitality shown on the day. Thank you also to my 2 very efficient stewards, Lesley and Judith, but most of all I would like to thank all the exhibitors who gave me such a lovely entry of quality dogs which were a pleasure to go over. I found no bad mouths, no kinked tails, and all the dogs were entire. Coats were at various stages, as to be expected, but none of the exhibits were without the correct double coat needed by a working terrier.
This workmanlike blue and tan bitch simply owned the ring. She is not exaggerated in any way, everything in moderation, being of lovely size and type, and coming to hand so well. Her head is of good proportions, with dark eyes, well placed ears, and a strong muzzle with big teeth in a correct scissor bite. Her neck is muscular and moderate in length, her shoulders well placed and well laid back, and she is easily spanned. She is ribbed well back, has a strong loin and is well angulated fore and aft. Her front is straight and narrow, she has a harsh, deep double coat and thick, loose pelt, adequate bone and stands on well padded feet. The correct length of upper arm gives her good reach, matched by plenty of drive from her well muscled hindquarters, allowing her to power round the ring with that smooth, economical movement needed to work all day.
